As always, we’ve had a great week full of learning, playing and celebrations! We’ve also had a new friend join our class this week. Oliver has been a great addition to the class, with our pupils setting a great example and being such lovely friends to him. We can’t wait to see the progress Oliver will make with us.
Our week began with preparations for Chinese New Year. Everyone loved making lanterns, lucky fish and banners to decorate the hall for our special assembly. We learnt all about Chinese New Year, including why and how it is celebrated. We incorporated this into our English and used this knowledge to write some fact sheets about the celebration. The Chinese New Year assembly was brilliant, with traditional Chinese singing, dancing and even food! Everyone enjoyed trying the food using chopsticks.
In Art this week, we were continuing on with our topic, Space. Everyone painted different planets in the solar system, ready to display outside of the classroom. The children all had their favourite planets and could tell us some great facts on the solar system.
In Maths, we have continued our work on time. Many children are showing a great understanding of reading time, with some now confidently writing time also!
We had our PE sessions with Graeme this week, practicing dribbling, kicking and scoring. At the end of the session, the whole class participated in a football match. Graeme commented just how impressed he was with everyone’s enthusiasm, effort and teamwork. As if that wasn’t enough exercise, we finally got back to our kangaroo club this week. This is always a highlight of the week, with everyone showing us great skills.
Another subject we are continuing with is ‘stranger danger’. This week, we recapped what we had previously learned, including what a stranger is, who are safe strangers and where are safe places. The children got into groups to share the ideas about what strangers are and how we can keep ourselves safe. The children demonstrated a great understanding and shares some great ideas.
We hope everyone has a great weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!
