Happy Friday friends.
Here is a snap shot of some of the things we have been up to in class this week.
Every Tuesday afternoon we all gather for our Sensory Story session. We try to change the story every half term, depending on engagement levels of children in class. This half term our story is called ‘We’re going to the Farm’. Every week we visit the farm, using all of our senses to experience a rural adventure. We listen to different sounds, guessing what animals we will meet next. Lots of children are already showing a preference to the farm pig. When we meet the pig we have a feel of thick oozey mud. (also known as gloop with cocoa powder). We also enjoy meeting Alfie, our school dog, who has a starring role at the end of the story. Children can choose to give him a stroke or a treat. We are seeing high levels engagement consistently during sensory story time.
Our additional class space which we call our Playspace is an area we use to support just that……PLAY. Play is an ESSENTIAL part of children’s learning and development. We have a role play, small world, messy, construction and movement area. We have recently introduced a problem solving area to the room. This is a place where children develop their problem solving skills using a range of containers and a motivating object. We pop the motivating object in a container in which children must figure out how to lift, turn pull, open or push to retrieve the object their desire. We use zippy bags, transparent and non transparent containers, bottles, cups and screw top containers. Have a look at our problem solving this week…..
Letters are going out this week about Summer club 2021. Places usually go quickly. Watch this space…….
