Animal Crazy

9th May 2024Elaine Quinn

We have loved getting into our new topic ‘The Rainforest’ we have been learning about all the animals who live in the rainforest, what they eat and where they sleep.

The Sloth is one of our favourites we have learned about.

We know rainforests can be divided into several sections.

At the top of the forest is a thick layer called the canopy, then is understory which contains small trees, shrubs, and plants. Then is forest floor, it is usually dark because the canopy blocks so much of the sunlight.

We have enjoyed roleplay and becoming explorers to see what wildlife we can spot with binoculars out in the school grounds, also vets to care for the animals of the rainforest who may have become poorly.

Keep an eye of for our next adventures.

We love a pamper

16th March 2024Elaine Quinn

We have loved our PHSE sessions this term.

We are pros at teeth brushing, and even tounge brushing after a few weeks.  It was tricky at first and made us feel a bit queasy,  but we now know all the steps without any prompts.

We have loved being given the opportunities to show we can take some responsibility for ourselves and our self care.

We have learnt about our own and other people’s feelings, asking before we touch them or brush their hair.

We are now understanding sharing, taking turns, playing and helping others is a good thing, if they agree and it is always best to ask first.

Down at the Farm

1st March 2024Elaine Quinn

Our topic this term has been ‘ On The Farm’. We have been learning lots of interesting facts about where our food comes from, whether certain foods grow above or below the ground and which meats come from which animals.

We have looked at lots of different tools and machinery that gets used on the farm.

One of our favourite activities has been role play being vets learning to look after the animals health issues, and understanding how to keep them healthy. We have had our very own farm shop in class where we have took turns to shop or be the shop keeper, were we worked on our coin recognition and counting skills.

We have been using lots of fresh vegetable’s in our cookery lessons making lots of tasty dishes and learning how to prepare each one, onions were definitely the least favourite.

We were very lucky to visit Humbleswood farm which lets you have hands on experience of caring, feeding and cleaning the animals who live there, it was such an amazing place sadly the weather was not as kind to us and we had a fun but very wet and muddy day.

A canny half term!

25th May 2023Becky Seeber

This half term we have been exploring our fantastic city Newcastle upon Tyne. We have had a busy half term filled with lots of trips and fun.

Our first trip was too the Angel of the North. We explored the area and took lots of great pictures and played some lovely games. After our trip we were very inspired and we made our very own Angel of the North statues in our art lesson. We looked at all of the textures of the statue and how we could recreate them. We then created a beautiful background to copy the images we took.

The second trip of the half term was a tour of St James Park where we got to explore the inside and outside of the grounds. We looked at the changing rooms with all of the shirts in and the press rooms where the players get interviewed.  We went beside the pitch and sat in the manager’s seat and found out all of the secrets and fun facts about the Newcastle united ground. Class 9 then had a lesson with Graham to put our new learnt skills into practice.

Next up we headed around Newcastle to see where we all lived and if we could recognise our homes. This was stemmed from learning about our family trees and our communities. We all managed to recognise our houses or our streets.

Our final trip of the half term was the Quayside too look at all of the buildings and amazing bridges. Whilst there we learnt more facts about the bridges and their purposes. We walked all of the way along and stopped for a cheeky ice pop in the sunshine. We then used our creative minds to create our own bridges with straws and glue to create the structure.

Class 9 have continued with their weekly horse riding lessons and have gained so much confidence. Nell has increased her confidence around horses and is now confident when stroking them. We were so amazed when she sat on a horse one session. Very brave!

We have been going to our local shops weekly to collect our ingredients for our food tech lessons. Our social skills and independence and awareness of others has improved this half term.  We have been making Geordie delicacies this half term to stay on theme with our topic. We have made Pease pudding, stotties, bacon floddies and lots more.

We hope you all have a fantastic break over the holidays and cant wait to see you all back next week.

On Tuesday afternoon we headed on our first topic trip of the year which was to the angel of the north.

We were very brave , and we all enjoyed the new experiences and the unexpected textures, and also not knowing what we would feel within the box. In the afternoon we went to the thrive room to do roleplay and share our toys with each other .

We were all so amazing with our horses and were able to listen and follow instructions well. The other group stayed at school and we enjoyed a lovely world book day assembly. We even got to watch the Masked story teller!

On Friday, we had our usual certificate assembly. This week Leighton won a certificate for his increased independence when completing a set task. He is also becoming more independent when zipping up his coat. This is something he has been practicing for a while. A fantastic week with class 9

27th January 2023Elaine Quinn

To start off our fantastic week we had our usual carousel of work, after playtime we had a walk around our school grounds hanging our bird feeders on the trees in our school grounds.   In the afternoon we had a calming meditation session listening to different under water sounds to stay on topic with The Great Barrier Reef.

On Tuesday morning we looked at how to clean our teeth properly. We learnt how long we need to brush for and how much tooth paste we need to use. We then put it into practice and we all cleaned our teeth. Later that day we had our weekly food lesson where we made fruit scones which we enjoyed with butter and jam.

Wednesday was our morning routine of our carousel, after break we had a PE lesson we did a 1 mile walk in class with lots of different movements. After lunch we had an arty afternoon where we made our very own coral reef display. We made it with salt dough and food coloring.

Thursday was a day for learning about our topic. We found out about scuba divers and all of their equipment which they use to swim around the sea and how they see the fish under water. Thursday is class 9 favorite afternoon as we have the thrive room where we enjoy our time sharing our toys and playing with our friends.

To end our week we had our achievers assembly, where watched our friends from different classes achievements and progression. After assembly we had a long play in the adventure playground, playing with the scooters and the pushchairs. In the afternoon we had a playdoh modeling session making different shapes.
