Happy Halloween

21st October 2022Jess Burns

We have been celebrating Halloween a little early as it has tied in nicely with exploring different materials and also our class sensory story, “We’re Going on a Pumpkin Hunt”

We have explored the story using all of our senses and this week we went on a pumpkin hunt in the Caterpillar Garden. We also became mini scientists as we made an erupting pumpkin!

We have enjoyed joining in with lots of Halloween related songs on the Smart Board and tried dancing to “the Skeleton Dance”

There will be a whole school  Halloween Party on the 31st of October when we come back to school. We will dress up and enjoy Halloween type foods, songs and dance and scary stories.

We hope you have a good half term holiday and look forward to welcoming the children back on the 31st October.

Jess, Babs, Labli and Corrie.

Harvest Festival and All Things Autumnal

13th October 2022Jess Burns

We really love this time of year when we can go out and find lots of interesting objects to bring back and explore in class. We’ve been collecting objects and using them in different ways. It’s a wonderful opportunity to get creative and work on our own interests.

We also celebrated Harvest Festival on Wednesday with foods from a round the world. We chose Bangladesh as our country and the children made the most delicious daal. We presented it in Assembly and Mr Rollings and Alex thought it both looked and tasted amazing. We ate some at snack time and it really went down very well.

Fun in the Sensory Integration Room

6th October 2022Jess Burns

We really enjoy spending time together in the Sensory Integration Room and whilst we’re having fun we are also working on/developing so many different aspects.

Movement is so important and in this space, the children can explore a range of movements at their own pace. There is spinning, swinging, climbing and bouncing. It is also a wonderful opportunity to develop close relationships with each other and with the adults too. There is always lots of Intensive Interaction taking place where the adults work very closely with individual children. Of course it is also a fantastic way to develop our communication skills using speech, symbols, signing – Makaton, and the children’s own VOCA’s (Voice Output Communication Aids) During our sessions we are able to work on the children’s PLP’s (Personalised Learning Plans) in an exciting and highly motivating way. This is one of our favourite spaces and its wonderful to see the children making lovely progress.

We Love To Move!

26th September 2022Jess Burns

What a physical bunch we are and are always on the move!

This week we had our first session in the Hydro Pool which was really successful. We introduced our two new children to the pool and were amazed at their confidence. We spent this first session really getting to know our children after the summer holiday ready to begin working on individual programmes next week incorporating The Halliwick Approach to water confidence.

We had a great PE session where the children had the opportunity to climb the large apparatus and also develop their balancing skills. There were soft bean bags to throw at a target and it was also a great opportunity to develop our turn taking and sharing skills as well as developing friendships.

And to top it all, the balls were back in Soft Play! Such excitement and lots of fun in the ball pool.

Welcome to Class 4

16th September 2022Jess Burns

Hello everyone and welcome to our new class. We have had a wonderful two weeks getting to know our lovely children. Some children were with us last year but we also welcome two new children to the Hadrian Family, Henry and Cole. The staff working with your children are Jess – the class teacher with Babs, Corrie and Labli. (photos to follow soon)

We are looking forward to an exciting year together where we will be  providing a wide range of fantastic opportunities. These last 2  weeks we have already explored the Mud Kitchen, Sensory Integration Room, Rebound, PE,  and also a new indoor and outdoor environment. Our Class Dojo is also an opportunity for you to see what we have been getting up to and obviously an opportunity for you to chat with us.

Here are a few photographs from the last two weeks.

Have a lovely weekend.

Goodbye to 2021-2022

22nd July 2022Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

What a wonderful year we have had in our EYFS class. The children have truly flourished and it has been an honour to teach them for their first experience of full time schooling. We have had some children for two whole years and they are ready to conquer KS1. Whereas other children are staying and we are ecstatic. They are most hilarious, engaging and wonderful little people. We can not wait to see all the wonderful things they achieve at Hadrian School. We will miss you.

Have a wonderful, safe summer everyone! Thank you

Spring has sprung and the Easter Bunny has visited!

7th April 2022Jess Burns

Hi everyone and happy Easter,

We have had a very special week in our class! Filled with lots of exciting activities around Easter.

Firstly, we created some Easter cards using paint and shaving foam.

During our topic sessions, we had Easter Maths – counting the eggs into the basket, matching baby animals to their Mams on the farm and matching numbered eggs to the correct amount of chicks.

We have been filling eggs with green sand and watching the sand fall from the bottom. We also had flower water play and flower threading which the children absolutely loved.

During PE, we had egg and spoon races, follow the Easter bunny’s feet obstacle course and had to find the hidden eggs and chicks to sort into the correct coloured baskets.

We were all rewarded with a lovely chocolate egg and the golden egg had even more chocolate inside that is going home with us! How exciting!

Thank you for reading,

Everyone in Jess’ Class

We are going to Asia

28th January 2022Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

We have started our Asia topic! The children have helped decorate the walls with spice painting and created wheels for our Street Food Cart. The spice painting on the wall fills the corner of the room with beautiful tasty smells.

We are focusing on India and have created a role play corner aimed at all areas of their learning – mark making, sharing opportunities, role playing, sensory exploration, using symbols, communicating and following instructions.

We have been searching for animals around school and matching pictures. We have designed henna for our hands and played music in the shanty shack linked to India.

We are starting our new sensory story “We are going on an adventure…” next week!

Thank you,

Jess’ Class

Leaves are falling all around us…

12th November 2021Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

Finally the leaves are starting to fall all around us and we are thoroughly enjoying learning all about Autumn. We are reading all about hedgehogs in the story Don’t Hog the Hedge. They have been creating hedgehogs from the leaves they collected, leaf printing and retelling the story with props. We have been learning that some animals need a ‘big sleep’ over the winter months.

Thank you,

Jess, Corrie, Michele and Lindsay
