Bangladesh Harvest in the Yurt

8th October 2021Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

We had an amazing day in the yurt! As you know the weather wasn’t great (we were drenched to the core) but it was wonderful listening to the rain bounce off the roof of the yurt with the log burner lit. The children were fascinated by the fire.

We practiced our chopping skills and made a vegetable curry with nan breads on the stove.

Alfie came to visit and we shared our custard creams.

We practiced our dancing with scarves to Bangladeshi music.

We then tasted the curry before it was entered into the Harvest Around the World Competition.

The yurt is such an amazing aspect to our already great outdoor spaces.

Thank you,

Jess, Lindsay, Corrie and Michele.

School’s Out For The Summer!

23rd July 2021Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

What an unusual but wonderful year! We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our children. They have overcome many challenges due to COVID19 and have absolutely flourished into resilient, wonderful, hilarious, energetic and loving children who are full of fun. Their personalities have shone and for many of them, they have truly settled into their school. We can’t wait to see all they achieve next year.

We are incredibly grateful to all our parents who have supported us and had patience whilst we navigated through this difficult and disrupted year! Thank you for trusting us with your wonderful children and we hope you are as proud as we are with the amazing and endless progress they have made.

Eid Mubarak

14th May 2021Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

In EYFS we celebrated Eid on Wednesday! We dressed in beautiful clothes and danced to traditional music.

We then “reached for the stars” by pulling stars from the ceiling.

After lots of moving around and dancing we decorated hands with henna and explored our sensory bin.

Hope you all had a lovely day if you were celebrating Eid.

Many thanks,

Jess’ Class

Mark Making Mad

26th February 2021Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

In EYFS we are having so much fun and one of our favourite things to do is mark making! The children thoroughly enjoy getting messy and those who aren’t as enthusiastic are slowly learning to enjoy. Since we have been very lucky with the weather – firstly snow then lovely dry days we have been taking our mark making outdoors! We have even put our feet in the paint to observe our marks.

We do a session like this twice a week and mark making is very important in the development of the children’s gross motor and fine motor skills. We practise making different lines and circles using big movements from left to right and up and down.

Thank you and enjoy their beautiful photos. Have a lovely weekend.

We are Snow Happy in EYFS

12th February 2021Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

What a wonderful week of fun, getting messy, playing in the snow and eating treats. We started the week with some pancake fun! We began by finding our name or picture on pancakes and flipping them high into the air. We then made pancakes and explored all the ingredients – especially the flour. Our favourite part was eating them covered in Nutella.

We then decided to pain the snow! We used spray bottles and syringes with watered down paint and sprayed our play ground. The children were mark making, using their fine motor skills and jumping in the coloured puddles.

We then decided to decorate Valentine’s Day biscuits. We made the red and pink icing and chose our toppings. Then they explored the ingredients independently and played the exciting game of get all the balloons back into the basket. We even had heart shaped balloons.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and thank you for reading our blog,

Jess, Michele, Lindsay, Danielle, Corrie and all the lovely children in our EYFS classroom.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

22nd December 2020Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

What a lovely Christmas build up we have had (different and included isolation) but the children have made Christmas extra special during these unusual times. We were having a lovely party, pulling each other around on body boards, dancing to Christmas songs and playing with a parachute. Then we heard a bell ringing and a special visitor had arrived…. SANTA.

We then had a tasty Christmas dinner with crackers, hats and lots of roasties.

We have been extra busy little elves making lots of Christmas treats to go home for the children and their families.

We had a special sensory exploration photoshoot for winter. I must say we have some of the cutest snowmen!

We wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year! Stay safe and be happy.

Sending love and best wishes to everyone reading.

From all the adults and children in Jess’ Class.

When Mavis Came to Visit the Yurt

23rd October 2020Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

We had a spoooooooky Halloween day in the yurt! We decorated it with hanging webs, lights and Halloween creatures. We started the morning making sticky marshmallow rice crispy pumpkins.

We then took a trip up to the yurt and a special visitor arrived… MAVIS THE WITCH! She arrived on her broom, carrying treats and a book in her hand. All we could hear was her loud cackle outside of the tent! The children were amazed and super engaged when she walked through the doors. She read the story Room on the Broom and gave each child a chocolate treat for sitting so well.

In the afternoon, we played Halloween games in the yurt – apple bobbing and doughnut catching. We then watched Toy Story Terror on the protector using our make shift screen. Overall, it was a wonderful day!

Thank you,

Jess, Michele, Corrie and Lindsay

A Celebration of Africa!

16th October 2020Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

We have had a great week in our class! We started the week by celebrating Black History Month and reading Handa’s Surprise. We then had a sensory session and focused on fine motor and mark making skills. They loved playing with the safari animals and making prints in the shaving foam. We used shaving foam as George Washington Carter created it who was a black inventor and scientist. We than experienced an African music session. This is extended into their free play as we have created a jungle themed outdoor corridor.

The children decided to improvise and create drums from sticks and the tuff tray!

We have had a great P.E session and Emilia received our certificate for independently climbing and walking on the beam. They loved playing with the pom poms and throwing them in the air.

Have a lovely weekend. Thank you,

Jess, Lindsay, Corrie and Michele

Our School Yurt!

8th October 2020Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

I thought I would share some of the great pictures from the yurt. This was out first experience as class so we decided to spend half a day there. While half visited the mud kitchen, half of the children had singing in the yurt! We then had a lovely snack and explored the outside areas surrounding the yurt.

We have also been focusing on building relationships with . We have such a vibrant and exciting bunch of children.

Hope you all have a lovely day,

Jess, Michele, Lindsay and Corrie

Welcome to Jess’ Class

18th September 2020Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

What a great first 2 weeks we have had! We have welcomed some new children  – Emilia, Yanny, William and Ollie Joe to our Hadrian Family.

The last two weeks have been jam packed! We love seeing them bounding in every morning with huge smiles on their faces. We have introduced our new friends to all our refurnished outdoor areas and exciting rooms we have in school – like our amazing Rebound Centre and soft play. The children love getting wet, muddy and full of paint so that has been lots of fun!

We are using this time to really build meaningful relationships with children, finding out what they like, don’t like, observing them play and interact. They are such a wonderful bunch of children! We are very excited to see the immense progress they make this year and watch them mature and grow.

Thank you for sending in spare clothes so we can really get messy and explore!

Have a lovely weekend,

Jess’ Team
