Splash Splash

21st November 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

What a great water play session we all had therefore we thought it would be lovely to share the photos we have taken. The children were free to choose which tray they wanted to explore and we were working on their engagement, reaching out and filling and emptying containers. Emma loved making cups of tea for everyone and Katrina was fabulous at reaching out and playing with water. They were loving being squirted and splashing their friends. Subasna worked out how to push the springe with her mouth and squirt Alyson back!

The Christmas trip has been changed to the 4th December due to the Christmas Performance rehearsal.

Emma is our Half Term Achiever.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

First Successful Trip of the Year

15th November 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

I thought I would share our lovely photos from the Tim Lamb Centre – which was a huge success! They were free to roam, climb and dive around the soft play and trampoline section. They loved whooshing down the slide and hitting the hanging bags. It is a fab resource and there is information on our school website for you all to go and try it. We are definitely going again to try the sensory room, music room and gardens.

We had so much fun jumping into the foam bricks, the children loved being thrown in and were rushing to an adult for more. The children were bouncing up and down on the trampoline independently while others lay there to feel the vibration of the bed.

Children in Need Day! Thank you for sending your children in dressed up, they look adorable! We had a great day yesterday, completing a fun run style Jabadao style session with Loveday’s Class and John’s Class. This afternoon, we will be taking part in another fun run and we have an exciting assembly with a special guest!

Have a lovely weekend and thank you for all the snacks you have sent in. We are very grateful.

Emma will be receiving our Half Term Achiever!

Many thanks,

Jess, Michele, Corrie, Alyson and Lindsay

Our Autumn Walk

8th November 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

We started this week with a lovely autumnal walk around the adventure playground to collect some leaves, sticks and pine corns.  Most of the children chose to walk and really enjoyed catching the falling leaves. The things we collected were used to add to our den and for art work. The den is to add to the heuristic corner filled with natural objects and soft materials for them to lie on and explore.

We then decided to create some pictures using autumn colours and they look fab! The children loved rubbing their hands, arms and even their faces in the paint!

Massive HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our Emma, who was 6 on Wednesday. We spent Thursday afternoon having a party – filled with dancing, cake and jelly!

Have a lovely weekend.

We are on a trip on Monday to the Tim Lamb Centre and we are having a packet lunch.

Thank you,

Jess, Alyson, Michele, Lindsay and Corrie

Halloween Week

24th October 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

Last week at school before a well earned rest! The children have loved having our classroom decorated for Halloween. We had a great messy play session filled with scary spiders and witch’s slime! Some of us were also using our fine motor skills to pierce our hand through the web and collect the spiders.

The children have made some beautiful leaf art work, we used their classroom photos and they glued and placed the leaves on to make their hair from leaves. The lovely pictures that will be displayed in class.

The children have really enjoyed our new sensory story and this will continue until Christmas.

We will continue our space exploration sessions next half term and create a grotto for the lead up to Christmas.

If you would like to dress your child up in Halloween costumes tomorrow you can. We are going to have a mini Halloween disco today since the concert is cancelled using our school costumes. Tomorrow, we will have a few party games after the panto and Halloween snacks!

Hope you all have a lovely and safe half term.

Many thanks,

Jess, Alyson, Michele, Corrie and Lindsay

Fun Times

18th October 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

We are all thrilled at how well they have settled, built relationships and are comfortable in their new classroom. There has been adjustments to their timetable this week, for various different reasons, however the children were great and they embraced the changes! One wonderful opportunity was on Wednesday morning, we were unable to swim therefore we joined Scott’s class and some of John’s class in the Sports Hall. It was lovely to watch the children interacting with each other and taking extra with our little year one/twos, sharing resources and playing with them.

As you can see they are all starting to take an interest in each other. They are so happy and content playing alongside each other and some are beginning to initiate interactions and share resources.

On Monday, we read our new sensory story and flew on our airplane to various places – the rainforest, under the sea and into space. Firstly, the children visited the rainforest, they could hear the animals in the distance, feel the jelly swamp and explore the various animals hidden inside. We then took a trip to under the sea, the children loved playing in the water, squeezing the sponges, listening to the whale noises and being sprayed with water. Our last trip was to our favourite place – SPACE. They were so relaxed and loved tracking the star lights and making choices on the objects they wanted to explore – lights or silver foil.

I hope you can all can make the Coffee Afternoon on Monday 21st from 1:30 pm onwards.

We have trips booked!

On Monday 11th November, we will visit the Tim Lamb Centre at the Rising Sun Country Park, we will arrive around 10 am and return to school for our remembrance assembly in the afternoon. We will be taking a packed lunch provided by school. The centre is fab, it has a sensory room, soft play and trampolines!

For our Christmas trip, we decided to take a trip to the Metro Centre – see Santa, ride the train, go to McDonalds and then visit the soft play! It is a flat surface so we can take the children’s walkers and allow them explore all the lovely Christmas decorations. This will be all day on Wednesday 11th December.

Massive HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our Morgy Bear, 7 yesterday! We are having a lovely party for him this afternoon!

Have a lovely weekend and thank you for the snacks.

A Week in Class 1/2

11th October 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

We have had a great week, they are disappearing so fast! This week, we had a sensory art session and made some thank you cards. The children loved experimenting with the cold paints, rubbing them between their fingers and rolling spikey balls and cars into the paint.

The children are all water babies and thrive in the pool. They have been learning to blow bubbles, feel happy and accept water on their face. They love walking around and being independent.

Have a lovely weekend.

Many thanks,

Jess, Michele, Corrie, Alyson and Lindsay

Celebration of Bread

4th October 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

I hope you have all had a lovely week, we have had lots of fun. To celebrate Harvest Festival the whole school competed in the Celebration of Bread bake off. We sadly didn’t win but we did make some tasty Greek flat breads (although Andy did say they were a little burnt). The children thoroughly enjoyed getting messy in the flour and olive oil.

I hope you can all make it to our Coffee Afternoon on Monday 21st October from 1:30pm onwards.

It would be great if you could write in the school diaries any music that the children enjoy. We have some Madness fans in Class 1/2. During Music and Movement, we had a fantastic time choosing the songs, the children were all up dancing! Emma and Hope couldn’t wait to get to the hall to start jiving. We chose Madness, Sam Fender and some Meatloaf to move fast and slow to.  The children are still a little resistant to being moved however I can not wait to see them by the end of term.

We have started our new story and introduced the new songs. We think it is going to be a hit. We will be flying in our aeroplane to different places around the world and in space!

Hope you all have a lovely and safe weekend.

Thank you,

Jess, Michele, Corrie, Alyson and Lindsay

Our Week in Class 1/2

27th September 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

We have had an excellent week in Class 1/2, they are all settled and are beginning to follow a routine. This week, we read our class story ‘The Bear Hunt’ and we will be moving onto our new class story next week! We have written our own story all about travelling to different places in the world.

Some of the children, read the story Whatever Next and chose which fruit they packed inside the rocket. Whereas other children, took part in a communication group, they loved the balloons zooming off like a rocket in the sky. We have been concentrating on developing their attention, focus and engagement.

During messy play, we focussed on exploring dry cereal and biscuits crunching them between our hands and listening to the sounds. We then decided to add water and make them wet and gloppy. It was great to see the children sharing, making choices and tracking.

We had a wonderful Space Exploration session for the first time, all of the children sat in a circle and as the music played and changed aliens visited, we blasted off around the planets (balloons) and explored various lights. They were all so engaged! It was lovely to see them relaxed and calm after the session.

For P.E, we had a Music and Movement session, it was fab watching them move and dance to the music. It was great relationship building session and the children were seeking adults out to dance.

All of the children are starting to play alongside each other. Morgan was so lovely sharing a story with his friend. Subasna loved being on the swing with Basheer.

Well done to Basheer for allowing us to enter his world. He has been asking for more and showing adults what he wants when on the trampoline, during swimming and outside in the quad. What a superstar!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Thank you,

Jess, Michele, Corrie, Lindsay and Alyson.

Welcome to Class 1/2

13th September 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

Welcome to class 1/2 and the first blog of the school year! The last 8 days of school have been great, we have spent lots of time getting to know the children, introducing them to each other and finding out the things they enjoy (and don’t).

On our team we have Jess (me), Michele, Lindsay, Alyson and Corrie. Alyson and Corrie had some of the children last year, which has been such a good help.

We have such a confident and brave group of children in class 1/2. They have been dragging us around the hydro pool, requesting more on the trampoline and climbing all over the soft play. We can’t wait to see what they achieve this year.

We have been independently playing in the Thrive Room, the children enjoyed dressing up and exploring their environment.

We are lucky enough to have two classrooms! We have one set up for more formal activities, such as circle time and snack time. Our other classroom is decorated for communication and exploration activities. This term is space! It is decorated with our very own sensory wall and black out tent. The children love the foil blankets and torches. We also have a circus corner/thrive, the children love playing with lots of cause and effect toys.

Music Therapy was a great success! The children thoroughly enjoyed playing the various musical instruments. We definitely have some music lovers in here.

Thank you for all the snacks. I will be organising a coffee afternoon as soon as possible and will hopefully see you all there.

Have a lovely weekend,

Class 1/2

Goodbye and Good Luck Class 1a

19th July 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

I am so nostalgic writing this and looking through all their old pictures, they have grown massively in height and personality over the last 10 months. They came from Reception just little bods, all shy and quiet. Now we can’t stop them chatting!

What a wonderful year, we have all absolutely loved it. It has been great watching them progress in all different areas, especially, their communication skills, their physical skills and their confidence has sky rocketed. We have actors, dancers, singers, writers, mathematicians, nurses, shop keepers, animals and many more. Their imagination and creativity is amazing. I have loved thinking of new and exciting ways to keep them engaged and to bring on those skills.

You now have a Year 2 child! Can you believe it? I know they are going to continue to make outstanding progress. Their new teams are such lucky people!

Thank you to all you parents and carers you have been a dream, you all care dearly for your children and are on the ball with their every need. From sending their swimming kit in to sun cream to donations. This wonderful year and all their lovely trips wouldn’t have been possible without you.

Another massive thank you for all our gifts and cards, we are very grateful! It has been a pleasure having your child and I know they will flourish throughout their Hadrian school journey. I will miss them so much and I will be stealing cuddles every day in the quad.

Thank you,

Jess, Michele, Sharon and Katherine
