Well done to our 6b troop of actors!

8th November 2019Rachael Budden

We have had a very dramatic week in 6b this week!  A huge ‘well done’ needs to go to Joe, Abbie, Ruby, Rachel and Kinza for their hard work, determination and brilliant performance in Comedy of Errors at the Northern Stage yesterday!  They have worked super hard for weeks behind the scenes and were super brave and confident to perform to so many people.  Now for some actors’ headshots!

Have a lovely weekend!

Harvest

4th October 2019Rachael Budden

This week, we have had a very busy week celebrating Harvest!  We have been doing some Harvest art (collages of bread with our favourite toppings!), Harvest singing with Phil’s class (Cauliflower’s Fluffy is our favourite!) and we have also been designing and making bread.  Unfortunately, we didn’t win the Great Hadrian Bake Off tea towel but Prue Leith (Mrs. Stokle) said that our chilli and garlic loaf tasted amazing!

We also had a great life skills trip to Morrisons on Wednesday-the children wrote their lists, found the items and then used the self-checkout machines to pay.

We would like to say a huge ‘welcome’ to Ayaan who joined us in 6b this week-he has already settled in quickly and made lots of friends! Well done Ayaan!

Have a lovely weekend!

Our week in 6b

27th September 2019Rachael Budden

We have had another super busy week in 6b!  In English, we have written and posted our first letter to our penfriends- we can’t wait to get a response!  Our new Reading Buddies have also had their first session reading to Mason, Lucas and Violet from class 2/3.  They all did a super job and were so confident!  This will be weekly on Tuesday afternoons in our Library.  We visited Denton Burn Library on Monday to return our books and check new ones out- everyone is really getting the hang of the self check out machines and the different sections in the library!

We had our first swimming session at Sir Charles Parson’s School this week- we are so impressed with the children’s swimming skills!  We can’t wait to see how they progress throughout the year.  In PSHE, we have continued with our Hate Crime Awareness Week posters- we can’t wait to show them to PC Ward next week.  In Humanities, we have been exploring what we would pack to take to a hot and a cold country- we had lots of fun role playing in the process!

Thank you for all of your responses for our Coffee Afternoon next Friday afternoon at 1.45pm.  We can’t wait to see you all!

Have a lovely weekend 🙂

The Adventures of our new 6B…

20th September 2019Rachael Budden

We have been having a brilliant time in class 6b since the start of the new term!  Our class have bonded amazingly well some lovely friendships have been built.  A special welcome goes to Ruby who has just joined us here at Hadrian!

In Numeracy, we have been focusing on numbers by playing lots of games and doing lots of fun activities!  In Literacy, we have been writing about ourselves.  Next week, we will use the information which we have prepared to write an introductory letter to our new pen friends at Epinay School.  We will find out on Monday which children in 6b have been paired up with which children in Purple Class at Epinay and we can’t wait!  On Tuesday, we did our first experiment in Science where we tested which materials dissolved and which did not.  We were also lucky enough to have the drama company Jibber come into school-they performed a very comical play for us around saving water.  We all loved it!

Yesterday, PC Ed Ward came into class to visit us to introduce National Hate Crime Awareness week and present a poster competition which we will be entering into.  We have already started designing our posters, using a hand for ‘stop’.  We can’t wait to show him what we have done when he comes into visit us again next week!

We have been having fun in food technology by starting off with simple cooking.  Our scrambled egg on toast was very successful and we loved eating it for snack!  In Art, we have been discovering primary colours and which of them make which secondary colours.    Next time, we will be using or new knowledge and skills to produce some Kandinsky-style paintings.

We will be visiting Denton Burn Library on Monday to return and find new library books.  We had a lovely time last time and even got the chance to listen to a story!  Swimming will start on Thursday afternoon. This will be fortnightly-you’ll receive a text reminder the day before.

Have a lovely weekend!

What a half term!

19th July 2019Rachael Budden

We have had such a brilliant last few weeks in 6b, the highlight definitely being Activities Week- the smiles on the children’s faces for the entire week were priceless!

To top everything off, our Leaver’s Assembly yesterday was just brilliant and there definitely wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

We have had an absolutely brilliant year with your children and have loved every minute of experiencing them learn and grow.  We wish them all of the luck in the world either at their new schools or in Year 6 at Hadrian.  Have a brilliant summer!

A Secret Garden…sshh!

21st June 2019Rachael Budden

What’s behind the gate? Take a peek and look….

It’s a secret walled garden – all overgrown, neglected and forgotten.

Looking around you can tell it was once a much loved place and full of life. And it shall be, once again, but only with your help. We need you to help us tidy, water and plant to make the garden beautiful once more for everyone to enjoy.

6B were lucky enough to partake in “A Secret Garden” by Green Croft Arts, a fully inclusive immersive installation held at Dance City. Part workshop, part game, part dance the children were given the opportunity to try out open ended, playful and creative movement activities in a multi-sensory environment whilst exploring the garden. We all had an absolutely brilliant time-thank you to Green Croft Arts for a brilliant morning!

Steel Pans

21st June 2019Rachael Budden

6b have been lucky enough to have Jenny to come into visit us this term to teach us how to play the steel pans! We are currently working on George Ezra’s Shotgun which we will perform in assembly later in the summer term.  The children certainly showed us some amazing talents and we can’t wait for the rest of Jenny’s sessions! Thank you Jenny and Coralie, we are having a fantastic time!

Welcome back!

7th June 2019Rachael Budden

We have had a lovely and very creative first week back in 6b!  We have been working very hard on getting ready for our Children’s Art Festival (June 25th) and the work is looking great.  We have also been doing lots of counting through practical numeracy lessons and have even managed to squeeze in a trip to Hexham park!  We were all so impressed at how well the children worked through their solid team work this morning by playing games and completing jigsaws together-the difference since the start of the year is just amazing!

Next week will focus lots on learning outdoors, in the community and on being creative- we even have a steel pan workshop on Tuesday whereby the sessions will culminate in a performance for parents on July 16th pm.  We can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Science and DT week: Part 2

17th May 2019Rachael Budden

We have ended the week with more Science and DT fun!  The bubble fun was great in our Secret Garden on Wednesday and our children were just brilliant at the Science Fair yesterday.  We demonstrated our Vinegar Volcano to LOTS of children, staff and other schools.  Well done particularly to Kai who explained what we were doing so well- you really deserved your certificate today!  Here is what we did, just in case you’d like to try it at home.

We had an absolutely lovely time at Saltwell Park yesterday afternoon- the sun was shining and 6B’s faces were smiling!  We even had an ice cream after playing in the park-how lucky are we?!
