Magnet at the Discovery Museum

12th February 2020Ellen Jankowski

Today we took our science learning on the road and visited the Discovery Museum. The children enjoyed experimenting with the different magnets to see which they could make ‘push’ or ‘pull’. They loved the feel of the magnets pushing against each other when ‘like’ poles were put together. We also found some super fun tubes which we could talk down and the children loved trying to work out which friend they could hear at the other end. There was also a wonderful ball tube which sent balls zooming using the power of suction and we were so proud to watch their team work as they passed the balls from the end to the beginning and took turns with members of the public at putting them in the tube. The behaviour of the class was great and we always feel so proud to take them out and about, especially when members of the public comment on their behaviours and manners too!

Printing

5th February 2020Ellen Jankowski

Our topic in art this term is printing. The class have been experimenting with different ways to print and this was a fun one….string! They had so much fun choosing the colour, dipping the string and watching as it made a mark on the paper. We are going to put their lovely work up in our classroom – pop and see it if you can!

Chinese New Year

5th February 2020Coralie Forbes

We celebrated Chinese New Year with a whole school assembly.  We were wowed with a traditional Dragon Dance by our older friends, lots of colourful costumes, music and Chinese cooking! To stay in theme our sensory exploration lesson we used noodles.

Well done Nicole! Our half term achiever

Lovely to have Frazer back after his surgery, still with his big beautiful smile, being a brave boy.

Well done to Nicole our half term achiever! Fabulous to watch all the hard work and achievements you have made.

Kung Hei Fat Choi

31st January 2020Marc Teasdale

Happy Chinese New Year everyone! We began the year of the rat in style – but don’t take our word for it:

We began our work on autobiographies this week. We learned that an autobiography is the life story of the person writing it – we read (and roleplayed) Marc’s autobiography and discussed the kind of events that are typically featured in a life story: childhood, school, family, work, hobbies and more. Take a look below:

As Brandon explained, our visit to the church was great. We enjoyed learning about the different areas of the church, listening to bible stories and having a go on the piano:

And finally, we must say a massive congratulations to our half-term achiever: Amelia!

Have a great weekend!

Pass it on Parents coffee morning

30th January 2020Coralie Forbes

Very busy, productive morning with the fabulous ladies from Pass it on Parents.

We had some lovely new parents and carers join us today, lots of helpful advice and information was shared and applications for grants, funding were completed.

Nicola from SEN transport came to explain a little about the new application forms which are available online from 1st February 2020. Nicola assured the parents the new changes are designed to provide the best possible service for the children, rather than trying to cut provision or costs.

Lots of Celebrations this week

24th January 2020Coralie Forbes

Happy birthday Jack

Happy birthday Frazer

We have had a very busy fun week in NR2.

We celebrated two birthdays Jack and Frazer who were both 6 years old! They enjoyed their friends singing to them and blowing out the candles on their cakes.

Wednesday we had a whole school Burns night Ceilidh celebration with traditional music and dancing. The adults showed us each dance then everybody got involved, it was great fun for all. Its always great to socialise with our friends from different classes.

Rabbits Hop, Sparrows Fly

17th January 2020Marc Teasdale

It’s been a great first fortnight back, here in 6c! We have returned to school from the Christmas holidays with exceptional attitudes, an amazing work ethic and happy faces. We’ve begun the half-term by continuing our work on poetry. We dipped our toes into the world of rhythm before the holidays and we have now expanded our poetic knowledge by creating our own versions of the poem ‘Splish, Splash, Splosh’. After learning the rhythm and structure of the poem we were able to choose our own vocabulary to remix the poem in our own unique way – we also came up with some fantastic ideas of our own and the results were amazing! We can’t wait to perform our work during next week’s music lesson. Check out our creative process below:

The creativity doesn’t stop there – we’ve begun our new Art topic, ‘Drawing and Painting from Observation’, this week and we are off to a flying start. We began the topic by creating a painting of pieces of fruit, concentrating on the shape and colours we could see. The results were brilliant, as you can see below.

We have worked extremely hard during our ‘Quiet Time’ sessions this week. We have concentrated on reading and writing…

…speaking and listening…

…and so much more!

Everyone in 6c is making extremely good progress in every area – there is no stopping us!

Look out for our 6c ‘blogcast’ coming very soon…

Have a great weekend,

6c Team

Jabadao

17th January 2020Elaine Quinn

Jabadao is movement and exploration that supports children’s development physically, emotionally and in many other ways too. It encourages natural physical spontaneity, is child led and play based, each child is the expert in the ways they need to move.

Jabadao is good to work on the vestibular and proprioception systems by helping to improve hand-eye co-ordination, balance, orientation, body awareness, attention, and the ability to sit still, whilst supporting language and makaton signs as the children communicate what they want to do.

Our class really enjoy this session, we have a dimmed room with fairy lights, body boards, exercise balls, many different coloured scarfs and tinsel pom poms for the children to explore, whilst listening to appropriate music.
