This week in 2a

3rd May 2019Dave Robinson

This week we said goodbye to our friend Sibylla, who is moving to Australia to be closer to her family. She will be a huge miss to Hadrian school, but we will be sure to keep in touch. We had a lovely party on Wednesday afternoon to say our goodbyes.

On Tuesday we started our new science topic ‘electricity’. We looked at lots of different electrical items and explored the different ways electricity acted on them. We also worked hard on our new topic, which is ‘the seaside’. We learned some new signs and got to explore sand and water in preparation for trips to the beach!

On Thursday in art we used sand to create some ‘straight line’ artwork. Everybody worked really independently and concentrated really well pouring the sand onto their lines.

Finally, a huge well done to Violet who was awarded our class ‘Half Term Achiever’.

Exploring Habitats

3rd May 2019Julia Kelly

In Science this term we are finding out about different Habitats. To enhance our learning we had a visit to The Great North Museum. We enjoyed a very practical workshop where we were able to handle a range of different animals which are usually behind glass display cabinets and out of bounds to the public. We found out about their particular features and also what kind of habitat they would have lived in.

After our session we enjoyed our packed lunch and had some time in the Study Garden before going on to explore the rest of the museum. With your kind donations we were able to go to the Butterfly Wall where we designed our own school butterfly which is now flying around on the interactive wall.

We found many more animals and their different habitats as we walked around the museum. We also explored the Romans display and we were delighted that the children remembered so much about them. There was an amazing virtual reality wall where we could write our initial on a brick which was then used to build the wall. A Roman soldier kept checking up on it!

What a brilliant day and it will really help with our work.

Baretoed Dance!

29th April 2019Loveday Fisk

Bare Toed Dance.

Last Term we were very lucky to have a company called Bare Toed dance come in to teach us some new dance skills as well as show off their skills in a special assembly! Over the course of 3 days we enjoyed all different kinds of dance, acrobatics and circus tricks. It was very exciting and we all got the chance to become Ariel ribbon dancers, as well as explore all the different equipment! We used huge Lycra hammocks and hanging hoop, massage balls, ribbons, fans and even got to wear some hats to really get into the dancing role. To end the sessions we enjoyed some wonderful music and singing, all of the dance teachers were very involved with us and knew exactly how to make us laugh and smile!

End of term fun!

26th April 2019Loveday Fisk

What a fantastic end of term we had!

In the last week we had lots of Easter fun. Messy play, dancing and ending with our sponsored Easter bonnet parade!

During Messy Play we used feathers, glitter and tissue paper to decorate our Easter bonnets in prep for the parade. Some of us were so excited to wear them; we tried them on for size before decorating. Take a look!

As a special treat the whole school got together to do some ceilidh dancing! We all got our bodies moving to the live Hadrian band performing Irish music. We got to socialise with all of our friends from 6A by dancing together. Peniel however snuck off to find his old friend Shannon in Dave’s class so they could dance together. We all had a jolly time!

On Friday we all took part in the Sponsored Easter Bonnet parade in aid of the sunshine fund, with our fabulous bonnets all dry from earlier in the week we popped them on and set off in the glorious sunshine! Afterwards, the best Easter bonnets and dressed were awarded. Well done to Peniel who won an Easter egg for his lovely yellow outfit! Just like the sunshine!

Dear Parents/Carers

We have had an excellent first week back. We have had a lovely trip to the Range to spend money that was very kindly donated from a group of retired fisherman from the North Shields fish quay. Next week will be another very busy week. On Tuesday we will have our first official visit to Charles Parsons where we will have a tour and break time for the year 6 children. Wednesday afternoon there is the meeting about the residential visit for the children who are attending and on Thursday morning we have the exciting opportunity to go to the Nuns Moor fair. The children will get to go on all of the rides for free. Have a lovely weekend.

Snail Hotel

26th April 2019Julia Kelly

Our new topic in Science this termĀ is Habitats. We explored what a Habitat means and decided we would begin our exploration by making a snail habitat. We found out all about where to find snails and what they needed to live.Ā Babs brought some snails in from a secret place in her garden and then we all went outside to find some more. As we knew where to look we did indeed find plenty. We brought them back to class along with soil, stones, leaves, carrots and fruit.

We placed them all on the table where they had a really good look around( they can actually move quite quickly) Each childĀ had previously chosen a name forĀ their snail and to help identify them (they do look quite similar!) we placed a tiny dot of “snail” varnish in a colour corresponding to the name. At the end of our work on snails we will have a snail race and see whose snail wins! We made a luxury home (in fact we made two as we had so many) and will continue to care for them in class for a short time before releasing them back into the garden.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

5th April 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

What a wonderful Easter week we have had, the children have been given lots of Easter eggs and they are so excited to eat them. Thank you to Mason and Sophia, you are very kind the adult’s and children really appreciate it. We have packed a bag of goodies for them to take home.

This week, we have decorated some gingerbread bunnies and chicks and made chocolate nests. We went on an Easter egg hunt around the sports hall and found eggs with special instructions, they were great at searching the big hall. They all listened really well and hugged their friends, lay on the floor, jumped, hopped and ran!

One afternoon, we enjoyed some colouring in and sensory play. The children were digging for carrots, filling pots with rice and bunnies and exploring sounds and objects hidden in eggs.

We have also created a Easter hat! Some choose to make flowers and some chose to make rabbits. We then walked laps around the school to raise money for the Sunshine Fund. Thank you to everyone who raised money, the children’s hats were so great they received a special prize of chocolate and Haribos!

Well done to Ella for receiving our Friday certificate for excellent writing of her name and for just being wonderful!

I hope you all have a safe and lovely Easter break. We can’t wait to find out what you have been getting up to.

A very EGG-citing week!

5th April 2019Elaine Quinn

HAPPY EASTER!

We have had a wonderful week, starting with a trip to Richardson Dees park in Wallsend.Ā  We enjoyed a wander through the woodland, searching for signs of spring, followed by a play in the enormous park there.

On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Margaret who let us play her harp.Ā  It sounded so beautiful, and we were very calm when we listened to the music.

On Wednesday we enjoyed a ceilidh.Ā  Mr RollingsĀ  and Mrs Stokle called the dances, and everyone joined in.Ā  We loved watching the children in Neil’s class perform their dance piece for us all.

Today we took part in the great Easter Bonnet Parade. We are helping our apprentice, Louise, raise money for the Sunshine Fund as part of her Miss Newcastle bid. We had lots of fun!

We are sending lots of things home today, but please remember to send back the following at the start of the new term:

Spare clothes

Nappies

Swim nappies

Sun cream and hat

Any medication

Have a wonderful holiday and enjoy your Easter chocolate!
