Yesterday we went to the West End United Reform Church to visit the Knitted Bible Stories Exhibition. Many stories from the Bible were told through the most beautiful knitted characters. We walked around the church exploring the different displays which told the stories. The children were able to recognise some of the stories through the different characters. We were also treated to some juice and biscuits/popcorn. Many thanks to Pat and Doug for inviting us. Its well worth a visit if you are in the area of Two Ball Lonnen.
It’s all brand new!
This week we’ve had lots of new jobs to enjoy. New outdoor learning, sensory cooking and our friends Leon, Shay and Billy went to see their new school they’ll be going to in September!
On Monday afternoon, accompanied by the glorious sunshine we went for a walk around the mud kitchen and wildlife garden in a quest to find flowers, sticks and soil to use during our new ‘nature’ topic for exploration and investigation. While searching we had excellent talking and focus from everyone!
For messy play we’ve put down our play tools and picked up our aprons to start our new topic – sensory cooking! This term we will be making, baking and decorating our very own cupcakes. Through the term we are taking our time to explore each texture, each smell and each reaction when the ingredients are mixed together. Then of course, tastes testing after our cakes are finished. Yummy!
It was transition week on Tuesday! Leon, Shay and Billy had the chance to go and check out their new school in preparation for September. The boys had a lovely time exploring Sir Charles Parsons, having the chance to meet some new friends, see some old friends and the staff!
Stay tuned!
Welcome to the first blog of the Summer Term!
This half term, we’re going to be investigating and exploring Transport. We’ve been reading a great story called, ‘Car, car, truck, jeep’ and learning the signs for lots of different types of vehicles. We are going to be making our own cars and trucks. We are also going to be learning the symbols and signs for stop, go, fast and slow – all part of our core vocabulary. We think everyone is really trying very hard with their communication skills! Well done!
This half term, we are lucky enough to be visiting Pegasus RDA Centre in Morpeth. Everyone has been amazing – sitting up straight on the ponies and getting on and off sensibly. The people who run the centre have been so impressed with the behaviour and ability of the children!
This week was our last week of dancing with Christine from Tiptoes Dance. She has been helping us to learn about open and closed body shapes. Everybody has worked really hard in these sessions, following instructions carefully and trying hard to make dance sequences.
This week’s Half Term Achiever was Mohmin. Everybody has been so impressed with him, and we all enjoyed watching his video this morning in assembly. Well done, Mohmin!
This week we said goodbye to our friend Sibylla, who is moving to Australia to be closer to her family. She will be a huge miss to Hadrian school, but we will be sure to keep in touch. We had a lovely party on Wednesday afternoon to say our goodbyes.
On Tuesday we started our new science topic ‘electricity’. We looked at lots of different electrical items and explored the different ways electricity acted on them. We also worked hard on our new topic, which is ‘the seaside’. We learned some new signs and got to explore sand and water in preparation for trips to the beach!
On Thursday in art we used sand to create some ‘straight line’ artwork. Everybody worked really independently and concentrated really well pouring the sand onto their lines.
Finally, a huge well done to Violet who was awarded our class ‘Half Term Achiever’.
In Science this term we are finding out about different Habitats. To enhance our learning we had a visit to The Great North Museum. We enjoyed a very practical workshop where we were able to handle a range of different animals which are usually behind glass display cabinets and out of bounds to the public. We found out about their particular features and also what kind of habitat they would have lived in.
After our session we enjoyed our packed lunch and had some time in the Study Garden before going on to explore the rest of the museum. With your kind donations we were able to go to the Butterfly Wall where we designed our own school butterfly which is now flying around on the interactive wall.
We found many more animals and their different habitats as we walked around the museum. We also explored the Romans display and we were delighted that the children remembered so much about them. There was an amazing virtual reality wall where we could write our initial on a brick which was then used to build the wall. A Roman soldier kept checking up on it!
What a brilliant day and it will really help with our work.

Bare Toed Dance.
Last Term we were very lucky to have a company called Bare Toed dance come in to teach us some new dance skills as well as show off their skills in a special assembly! Over the course of 3 days we enjoyed all different kinds of dance, acrobatics and circus tricks. It was very exciting and we all got the chance to become Ariel ribbon dancers, as well as explore all the different equipment! We used huge Lycra hammocks and hanging hoop, massage balls, ribbons, fans and even got to wear some hats to really get into the dancing role. To end the sessions we enjoyed some wonderful music and singing, all of the dance teachers were very involved with us and knew exactly how to make us laugh and smile!
What a fantastic end of term we had!
In the last week we had lots of Easter fun. Messy play, dancing and ending with our sponsored Easter bonnet parade!
During Messy Play we used feathers, glitter and tissue paper to decorate our Easter bonnets in prep for the parade. Some of us were so excited to wear them; we tried them on for size before decorating. Take a look!
As a special treat the whole school got together to do some ceilidh dancing! We all got our bodies moving to the live Hadrian band performing Irish music. We got to socialise with all of our friends from 6A by dancing together. Peniel however snuck off to find his old friend Shannon in Dave’s class so they could dance together. We all had a jolly time!
On Friday we all took part in the Sponsored Easter Bonnet parade in aid of the sunshine fund, with our fabulous bonnets all dry from earlier in the week we popped them on and set off in the glorious sunshine! Afterwards, the best Easter bonnets and dressed were awarded. Well done to Peniel who won an Easter egg for his lovely yellow outfit! Just like the sunshine!
Dear Parents/Carers
We have had an excellent first week back. We have had a lovely trip to the Range to spend money that was very kindly donated from a group of retired fisherman from the North Shields fish quay. Next week will be another very busy week. On Tuesday we will have our first official visit to Charles Parsons where we will have a tour and break time for the year 6 children. Wednesday afternoon there is the meeting about the residential visit for the children who are attending and on Thursday morning we have the exciting opportunity to go to the Nuns Moor fair. The children will get to go on all of the rides for free. Have a lovely weekend.

We had such an amazing trip to the Alnwick Garden this week! 6b even got a certificate in assembly today to commend them for their enthusiasm and impeccable behaviour on such a fabulous day out. We can’t wait for more outdoors-y trips in the coming summer term.
Our pictures say a thousand words…
Our new topic in Science this term is Habitats. We explored what a Habitat means and decided we would begin our exploration by making a snail habitat. We found out all about where to find snails and what they needed to live. Babs brought some snails in from a secret place in her garden and then we all went outside to find some more. As we knew where to look we did indeed find plenty. We brought them back to class along with soil, stones, leaves, carrots and fruit.
We placed them all on the table where they had a really good look around( they can actually move quite quickly) Each child had previously chosen a name for their snail and to help identify them (they do look quite similar!) we placed a tiny dot of “snail” varnish in a colour corresponding to the name. At the end of our work on snails we will have a snail race and see whose snail wins! We made a luxury home (in fact we made two as we had so many) and will continue to care for them in class for a short time before releasing them back into the garden.
