October is Black History Month so we decided to have a full week of activities to help us learn about this before we break up for half term. The class have enjoyed lots of different lessons and we have focussed on two books, Rastamouse; The missing musician and Handa’s Surprise.

On Tuesday our box of Halloween treats for our party tomorrow afternoon went missing! So we had to investigate like Rastamouse does in his story and work out who had taken them… We found some clues around school to help us think about who it could be.

In Art we made some colourful Rastamouse face masks using collage to decorate which we then used for our clue hunt to get into the character of Rastamouse.

Today we got a very strange message telling us that we needed to go and look for some more clues which led us to an iPad with a voice message telling us to meet them in the school hall at 2.45pm. It was then revealed that the culprit was Mr Rolling’s! Thankfully we have retrieved our box of goodies and we can get ready to enjoy a Halloween party tomorrow.

We have also done lots of lovely work around Handa’s Surprise. The class enjoyed listening to the story before acting it out and taking turns to be the different animals that take the fruits from Handa’s basket. We then followed the elephant footprints around our playground and collected all of the amazing tropical fruits to take back to class. The children enjoyed tasting the different fruits and the pineapple was a firm favourite.

Today the class enjoyed carving pumpkins!

We hope you all have a lovely week off and we look forward to seeing everyone next half term.
