A Right Roman Feast!

5th April 2019Julia Kelly

Yesterday we had the most wonderful afternoon. As we have come to the end of our Roman Topic we decided to celebrate by having a Roman Feast. We prepared some simple Roman food and set the table using Roman style pottery and silver goblets. We dressed in Roman style clothing and the girls even had their hair styled in the Roman fashion by our own resident hairdresser, Lindsay.

We invited our wonderful parents/carers and Nathan spontaneously welcomed them in. We all watched our own Movie, Hadrian Battle, The Movie 2019 which we’d filmed previously when the children used the swords and shields they’d made to have their own Roman battle. (unfortunately there weren’t many Celts around so they practised on each other!)

We then joined in with our favourite songs all about the Romans and all that they brought with them. There was much enthusiastic singing and role playing. We finished by joining with a Roman dance to the tune of “We Will Rock You”!

Just before we were about to eat, Nathan spontaneously stood up and told the audience all about what we knew about the Romans. He was absolutely amazing. It was then time for the Roman Feast. We use silver plates and goblets and also drank “Roman wine” (sparkling apple juice) We didn’t sit at a table as that’s not the Roman way. Instead we lounged on bean bags and enjoyed socialising with each other.

It was the most brilliant way to end our topic. We’re going to miss those Romans!

We hope you have a peaceful Easter break. Thank You for your continued support. We really do appreciate it.

Babs, Lindsay, Jess and Ann.

Pop up Hair Shop

5th April 2019Elaine Quinn

Last Thursday saw the busiest day so far in our pop up hair shop.  There were 46 children in the salon.

Everyone loved the new ‘Girls’ World’ hairstyling dolls, and the mannequins ended up with some very interesting hairstyles indeed!

We had some helpers from Year 6 who helped run the day by assisting staff with tidying and entertaining the children.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on this service. The children really enjoy experiencing the delights of a pamper day in a safe and familiar environment and we think everyone looks very smart with their new dos!

Pass it on Parents

5th April 2019Elaine Quinn

Thanks to everyone who attended the Pass It On Parents session, last Friday.  We had a productive time, filling forms and passing out information.

Pass It On Parents is a great, supportive group.  If you need help filling in forms or applying for grants, this is the group you need.  If you want to know what is available in the area for children with additional needs, we can help with that too.  It’s a relaxed and friendly group and we welcome any parents who need specific support or who just want a cuppa and a chat.  Come along and meet other local parents, make new friends and get great advice and support.

A Visit to the Angel

5th April 2019Antonia White

On Tuesday, April 2nd, 5B braved the chilly weather to visit one of the most famous landmarks in the region (and the biggest sculpture in the UK) the Angel of the North.

Despite the grey day, we enjoyed looking at this imposing piece of art from all different angles and appreciating its beauty; we also enjoyed a little run around on the surrounding grass!

Some of us navigated the decline to the look at the memorial garden where tributes, such as flowers, ornaments and pictures, have been left to commemorate cherished friends and relatives.

McDonald’s

3rd April 2019Sharon Dodd

After a visit to McDonald’s last week we decided to make our own café in class. The children have been taking it in turns to either be a staff member taking orders or a customer paying for their food. What great fun they have all had.

Welcome to Tilly and Tom

3rd April 2019Sharon Dodd

We would like to say a big hello to our two newest members of the class, welcome to Tilly and Tom, our Build-A-Bear Workshop teddies. Not only did we have great fun making them last week on our trip out but we also had a wonderful time in class dressing them and choosing their names. Tilly and Tom spend all day helping us learn from our play.

The Lady of the North

2nd April 2019Julia Kelly

As part of our work on sculptures we visited The Lady of the North, also known as Northumberlandia which is located near Cramlington. It is an amazing sculpture which covers a large area and presents a series of paths which wind around the sculpture including steep walk ways up to the head and paths down to the feet. (she is lying down!) The children were truly amazed by the size and the height of the sculpture. They had seen it on google images but it looked completely different up close. The children really enjoyed the challenge of climbing to the top and what a view! It was incredibly windy and we really had to hold onto each other!

A trip to Washington Wetland Centre

29th March 2019Elaine Quinn

We started our week with a trip to the Washington Wetland Centre.  We had an amazing time and the sun shone!  We loved seeing the otters being fed and found out some fascinating facts about flamingos!  We all had a bag of food to feed the ducks and geese.

We really enjoyed playing in the park.  Everyone was great at climbing the slope and slipping down the slide.

It was a super day and we’d love to go back.

In our dance lesson with Christine, we learned about using our bodies to make open and closed shapes.  We thought about how we could use our bodies to show how a flower grows and how a caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly.  It was fun to swish around the sports hall with the big scarves.

Many of the children visited Hadrian’s Hair Shop this week.  As you can see, everyone was pampered and looked after by the salon workers.  There were snazzy haircuts, and manicures and pedicures galore!   Look at all the bubbles in the foot spas!

On Monday, we are going on a trip to Richardson Dees park in Wallsend. The forecast looks a bit changeable so please make sure your child has a warm coat in case of chilly weather.

Horse Riding at the Pegasus Centre

29th March 2019Rachael Budden

We are so impressed at how confident and talented the children are at our Horse Riding sessions at the Pegasus Centre!  The weather was beautiful yesterday so the children were lucky enough to ride the horses outside in the sunshine.  Just look at how great they are doing!

What a busy week we have had!

29th March 2019Julia Kelly

This week we have been focusing on Numicon. We have been using Numicon to help support our understanding of the value of different coins.

On Tuesday we all took part in a Roman Battle! We had lots of fun using our swords and shields we made ourselves over the past couple of weeks. It was great to put them to use battling it out on our battle field!

Darren and Nathan had their hair cut on Thursday. They look very smart!

Due to staff shortages on Thursday the children went to different classes to visit their friends and make new friends. They had lots of fun!
