We started our Arts Award project this week by visiting The Baltic! We had a fantastic time, every child was engaged in their environment, taking in all of the different sights, sounds and textures. We loved going up and down in the lift and before we left we visited the viewing gallery and had a lovely view of The Quayside. We experienced lots of different art exhibitions and we also visited their sensory room which everybody loved! After lunch, because it was such a nice day, we stopped off at Heaton Park on the way home! A great day was had by all!

Our World Book Day assembly was just brilliant-our performance of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt blew everyone’s socks off and 6B’s costumes were amazing! Year 6 also did brilliantly in our St. Patrick’s Day assembly this week with lots of singing and Irish jigs going on! A big well done goes to Kai (Saint Patrick) and Joe (Michael Flatley) who performed their socks off!
In Literacy, we have wrapped up our autobiographies and biographies unit and are now ready to begin a new story-Marc will be teaching the class lessons around Oliver Twist on Monday and we can’t wait! In Numeracy, we are working hard at telling the time and linking it to our day at school. In Humanities, we have engaged in the process of Mummification and are now designing and making our very own death masks. We can’t wait to see them finished!
The children are enjoying their horse riding sessions so much and we can’t believe how confident they are! We have 2 sessions left but wish we had more! They are also doing a brilliant job in our Dance City sessions on Monday mornings.
Everyone is enjoying our Life Skills visits to town. The children are becoming much more confident at paying their own bus fares and ordering their own snacks. We will be visiting Newcastle again after Easter.
Well done to Saffron and Amelia who have both achieved our Half Term Achiever’s certificates over the past 2 weeks. We are so proud of your achievements!
We were very lucky in school last week to have a visit from the lovely Bare Toed Dance Company! They were with us for three days and we had a fantastic time! We attended three workshops and two performances. We all had a go on the aerial swing, the trapeze and explored lots of bright and colourful materials. We also really enjoyed listening to the guitar and the drums! It was a fantastic experience and we are so pleased we got the chance to take part! Thank you Bare Toed Dance Company!

Hi everyone,
Thank you to Sophia and her wonderful parents for the lovely donation that allowed us to have a special trip to Adventure Land and McDonalds. The children chose these places and had a ball of a time. Some children were so quick I couldn’t get a still image! They were all so independent, free and determined to climb everywhere and anywhere. We ate our McDonalds so quick we didn’t have time for pictures.

Jess and the team
On Tuesday, March 26th, 5B visited the Toby Carvery at the Metro Centre as part of our ‘Where Does Food Come From?’ topic.
As soon as we walked through the door of the carvery, we could smell the food and it smelled delicious! It looked impressive too!
We were looked after by a waitress called Karli who gave all the children crayons, colouring sheets, gel pens and paper to keep them busy until their drinks were brought over. We even got a packet of cress seeds each which we can grow in school.
Karli and one of the chefs then gave the children a talk about how the different vegetables served at the carvery are grown, which animals the different meats come from and what we need for a balanced diet.
After the talk, it was time for a lovely roast lunch, which was provided free to the children. Amongst the choices to eat were: roast potatoes, peas, carrots, roast onions, buttery mash, cauliflower cheese and huge Yorkshire puddings! Suffice to say, everyone was very full when they had finished eating!
We cannot thank the staff at the Toby Carvery for their hospitality and generosity. We all felt very welcome and had a wonderful time.

What a wonderful day we have had at the Metrocentre. We started our day by taking a train ride, waving at the shoppers as we passed them. After a quick refreshment stop we made our way to the Build-A-Bear Workshop. There was lots of different types of soft toys to choose from but we eventually decided upon one cream and one brown bear for the classroom. We all got a chance to stuff and put a heart into each bear before choosing a school uniform for them. We haven’t chosen any names yet but will update you when we do. After that we were all hungry so headed off to McDonalds for our lunch which we all enjoyed. As we had a bit of time left over before the bus came back for us, we had a chance to visit the small Soft Play area at the Antiques Village. Wow what a busy but fun day we had.
On Thursday morning we had one final performance of flying and spinning before enjoying our last session in the afternoon. All of the children enjoyed one last dance and sing before climbing into the hammocks and getting a relaxing massage. Asanosi was very engaged, sitting and playing with the fan and jumping around with his new friends. Bradley was also extremely engaged when listening to the guitar play, dancing along to the tune… He sat independently for 45 minutes! Owen had a little spin of the ariel before staff got one final go of testing their skills. We ended the session relaxing and listening to an acoustic version of bye bye baby, Jackson even showed off his big voice, vocalising goodbye at the end of the song.
