What great fun we’ve had this week reading our story ‘The Gingerbread Man’, we sang his song and played with all of the resources from the story, we even decorated and ate some of our own gingerbread men.

Hello and welcome to Nadia’s Class blog! We are so excited to share all of our lovely photos and experiences with you this year. Here is a sneak peak of what we have been up to over the last few weeks and an introduction to our lovely new children!
We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our new class and seeing some old faces again. We have done so much already, we have been enjoying our outdoor learning sessions every week and we had a great coffee morning back in September where we really enjoyed meeting some of our lovely parents! We are very excited this week as we have our Halloween sensory play morning on Wednesday which is sure to be full of spooky fun!
Hope you all have a fantastic half term and don’t forget to subscribe and watch this space!

Dear Parents,
Welcome to our brand new, shiny blog. This half term has been wonderful. It has been lovely watching the relationships between adults and children form and the friendships between the children develop. The children have settled in really well to their new classroom with new routines. They are always engaged and excited for school. We are a very lucky team!
They have been learning all about ‘Ourselves’, the children are great at taking care of each other and the sick babies in our role play hospital. They love dressing up, wrapping each other in bandages and giving the babies injections. They have been learning all about their bodies, facial features, emotions and senses. Next term, they will be learning about light and dark.
Our class story Room on the Broom has been great, the children love getting dressed up and cackling like a witch. We have made magic portions, recalled the story, collected spiders and role played. The children have completed lots of phonics sessions, including listening walks around school. They discovered the FLOW Project’s work and they loved tapping and listening to the sounds the soldiers made.
During Maths, they have been learning all about Numicon, counting leaves and conkers they collected and making shape pizzas. The shape pizzas are for their new Pronto Pizza restaurant, this will aim to teach the children sequencing, colour and shape. As well as, develop their speaking, listening and writing skills.
Next Thursday 25th October, we will be having a class Halloween Party. So, if you would like to send your child in a costume that would be fab. We will have bob the apple, stick the boo on the ghost, eat the doughnut and lots of dancing.
We have trips booked:
Pizza Express (Metro Centre) – 13th November for the morning and through dinner – we will be making choices and cooking our very own pizza that the children can then bring back to school to have for lunch.
Beamish 29th November – all day – we are learning all about Old and New Toys in Humanities. We will spend the whole day their and school provides a packed lunch. The children will complete a work shop about old toys inside one of the stone cottages. We will be visiting the school and the local shops as well as riding the tram. Please dress your child I warm clothing and their school uniform.
Have a great weekend,
Jess, Kairen, Michele, Sharon and Katherine

What a lovely surprise we had when Jackie’s dog Harry came to visit us in school. He brought with him some toys and his favourite blanket. He is always so well behaved that we were able to stroke him and have a cuddle.
Hello Everyone!
We are delighted to bring you our first blog on the wonderful new Hadrian School website. Doesn’t it look fantastic?
Firstly, the children have settled into class 4/5B beautifully. Everyone has been working very hard, and we feel like we have really got to know everybody over the past few weeks.
This week, we went on our first trip out of school. We went to the Tim Lamb centre which was such good fun! We loved playing in the soft play area, and we had a great time in the sensory room. The garden at the centre is full of toys – lots of climbing frames, plenty of little houses to play in and wheeled toys, too! There are also animals to say hello to. The Tim Lamb Centre is right in the middle of the Rising Sun Country Park which is full of accessible paths through lovely countryside. We would certainly recommend a visit. You can also get a family subscription to the Tim Lamb Centre at very low cost. You can check it out by following the link below.

At school, we have been working very hard on developing our play and physical skills. Look at Charlie on his trike! He’s been working very hard. Amelia has been doing some excellent choosing and has enjoyed playing in the sand with her friends. We’ll put some more photos of our work up next week.
Please leave a comment on our blog and let us know you have visited!
Thanks,
Hannah and team
Welcome everyone to Nursery/Reception 1.
We are so pleased that we are able to blog again so you can all see the wonderful activities we do in class, we have had a busy few weeks since coming back in September and welcoming our new children into school.
Our new class mates are Karl, Aaron and Zack, they have settled in really well and have started to make lots of new friends.
On Wednesday 10th October we had a Harvest Festival assembly where all the classes made a scarecrow and took part in a parade to show them to the rest of the school. We had great fun singing and dancing to our harvest songs.
The Great British Bake-off has nothing on 5B this week!
Our design and technology project for this half term is ‘Bread’ so we have been getting our bake on baking, you’ve guessed it – bread! No bread machines were involved, it was all done the traditional way using yeast and waiting for the dough to rise.
We began by baking a basic wholemeal loaf then made a white, cheesy loaf, both of which were delicious! However, we decided to go one step further by baking a cheese and onion plaited loaf which was, though we say so ourselves, spectacular!
Everyone contributed to the making process by measuring cups of flour, adding pinches of salt, tablespoons of sugar, cups of water, etc. And, of course, we all had a go at kneading the dough each time – it was hard work! A grown-up plaited our loaf as we found it quite tricky to do.
On Tuesday, 9th October, 5B (and their friends in 5A) all visited Newcastle Castle for knight training school – and very good it was, too! We made the visit as part of our humanities topic, ‘Life in a Castle.’
Our guide for the day was David and he told us everything we needed to know about what it was like to be a knight in Medieval England. We had to climb the stone steps of the castle to reach the learning room – there were a lot of them!
We learned some very interesting facts, such as knights began their training when they were only young boys by being ‘page boys’ for someone who was already a knight…most of us didn’t like the idea of being someone’s servant!
There were lots of amazing artefacts for us to explore – and all real things a knight would have used. The chain mail, helmet and gauntlets were all very heavy, but they needed to be to stop opponent’s weapons in battle. We got to explore (dulled) swords, knives and a shield and even had a look at a mace; the mace seemed particularly scary!
As well as all of these artefacts, we also watched a history of the Newcastle Castle and how it had changed since it was originally built.
To finish our trip, we went into the castle dungeons. There were still hooks on the walls where prisoners would have been chained up! There were also some stocks, which David was kind enough to ‘model’ for us – they looked very uncomfortable!
All in all, it was a super trip and we were really able to experience lots of things, not just about knights, but also about life in a castle.
Being a page boy

Trying on gauntlets

The gauntlets were not very comfortable!

The helmet weighed a lot!

Knights used shields to protect themselves in battle

The shields were heavy too!
Our new Blog page will be up and running soon – please keep checking!
