Loveday’s Blog

19th November 2021Loveday Fisk

This week we enjoyed a brilliant exploration session in the classroom with our car theme. We saw many of our children play and explore for longer periods. Every one was so focused on what they were playing with and with the adults they were working with. Excellent!

We’ve had lots of visitors to school this week – from other schools, university lecturers and students. It has been such a pleasure to show them our brilliant children, the learning and our staff.

Today was our Pudsey Day for Children In Need.  It was lovely to see children all dressed in bright colours, spotty clothes and pyjamas.  We are still counting up money collected. Thank you all so much for the kind and generous donations.

This week we have enjoyed a session in the school Yurt.  Our lovely children have been superstars. Lots of intensive interaction between children and staff, beautiful eye contact and lots of choice making during a massage session.  The chilled music and log burning stove made the atmosphere very calm and allowed children an effective environment in which to flourish.

We had lots of giggles when adults tickled children.  Lots of opportunities for children to ask for more.

We ended the session with a lovely sing along.  Our children are music fanatics.  Lovely way to end a Friday.  Here are some pictures of our special time together.

We ended the week with a bang.  Lots of fireworks to celebbrate Bonfire night.  We hope to see lots of you at our display tonight.

Have a safe weekend.

Spooky goings on in school….

22nd October 2021Loveday Fisk

Happy Halloween everyone.  We celebrated in class early this week anticipating our half term Halloween.  Children and staff all had spooky fun this week.  We explored pumpkins, decorated our classroom doors, squished eyeballs in red jelly and went on an outdoor adventure hunting for spooky crafts around school.

Today we ended the festivities in a zoom assembly.  we were all invited to parade the corridors in a special socially distanced conga to show off our outfits.  Here are some photos of our fun……

Have a lovely half term everyone.  Stay safe.  See you all again on Monday 1st November.

Harvest Festival

8th October 2021Loveday Fisk

Happy Friday friends.

This week we celebrated our annual Harvest Festival in class by cooking a Syrian dish, inspired by our little class friend Leen. She and her family are from Syria therefore we decided to make Falafels to present to the leadership team and the head boy and girl to taste. Children from each class presented their own dishes to showcase dishes from around the world. We had everything from sushi to curry! A great Hadrian effort by all. Here are some photos of our class friends making our Syrian dish.

The school has been awash with yellow today to show our collective support to National Mental Health Awareness Day. It seems much more poignant these days to show awareness of such having a healthy mind during a global pandemic. The past 18 months have been hard on everyone’s mental health. People have been affected in different ways. As a school we shone a light on this today by everyone wearing yellow. Such a bright and vibrant colour lightened our moods this Friday.

Here are some photos of our outdoor sessions this week. We have explored in the rain and sunshine this week. We even made time to enjoy some singing in our school yurt….

Play Space fun….

1st October 2021Loveday Fisk

We thought it would be nice to introduce our staff team.  Here are the current members of our class team.   Class teacher, Loveday leads a support team made up of Frances, Clare, Toni, Sarah, Angela, Jenn and our lunchtime assistant Sam.  We are looking forward to a new staff member joining us next Monday. Holly will be an exciting addition to the team.

We have enjoyed a very physical week in class.  Lots of cycling and physical fun.

We would like to share with you some of the fun we’ve been having this week in our Play Space.  We are lucky to have a space attached to our classroom which we call our Play Space.  It is used in lots of ways.  The room is set up with a construction area, mark making area, malleable area, book corner and problem solving area.  Children enjoy child led play and exploration with the support of specific adults.  All we do is play I hear you say?  The short answer is, yes all we do is play.  However, play is such an important skill for our children.  While they play they are making connections, trialing, experimenting, exploring, developing relationships, problem solving, becoming independent, watching results of our actions, developing skills, sharing, communicating.  Here are some photos of what we do best in play space….

Next Wednesday is our Harvest Festival Assembly in school.  We are asking for kind donations of food to be collected for the Newcastle food bank.  Many thanks in advance.

Have a super weekend everyone.

Outdoors, waterplay and rebound….

24th September 2021Loveday Fisk

Already we can see potential friendships blossoming. Happy Friday friends.  We have had a very busy third week!  Staff and children have merged as a team, beautifully.

As a school we have a wonderful outdoor learning curriculum, filled with exciting opportunities to learn using the wealth of outdoor spaces we have to access.  Our class learn outdoors everyday, come rain or shine.  We have waterproof clothing and footwear for every child in class, to allow children to learn outdoors despite the unpredictable British weather.
This week has been no different.  Here are some photos of our children using the internal quad to work on their PLP (personal learning plan) outcomes.

Lots of our children are very motivated by water play.  These are golden opportunities to support great communication.  This week we worked on communication targets using the water play environment to encourage children to make requests.  Here are some photos of our fun times learning using water….

Our class follow a very physical, therapeutic and sensory curriculum.  Rebound Therapy is a weekly session which our class LOVE.  We follow a structure every week to encourage a range of movements from each child.  We use music as a cue to follow a routine in which we balance, crawl, walk, climb and stand using the trampoline as a base to challenge each child.  Lots of children need these sessions to expend some energy while others use the movement of the bed to enjoy deeper stretches and more stimulating position work.  We are very lucky to have our own bespoke Rebound Therapy Centre.

Already we can see potential friendships blossoming…..

Have a wonderful weekend.  We look forward to another fun filled week next week.

Welcome to Loveday’s Blog

10th September 2021Loveday Fisk

Hi friends,

Welcome to our first blog of the school year.  For those of you who have followed us over previous years……WELCOME BACK!   For all of you new friends, WELCOME!

Our class team is made up of the following people….

Loveday, class teacher. Clare, Sarah, Angela, Jen, Toni and our 2 new members of our Hadrian family, Frances and Emily.  Photo’s to follow.

This blog is the space we use to share with the world what we have been doing in class every week.  We share activities, celebrations, events and future plans.  We like it to be a very interactive forum, so feel free to comment and share with family and friends.

We are a class of 11 children and 8 adults.  We follow a sensory and therapeutic curriculum with a total communication approach throughout each day.  Day to day we use a range of communication approaches individual to each child.  The blogs to follow will show exactly what that looks like.

Here are some photo’s from our first week. Our time has been spent having fun getting to know our children and exploring the school together.

Last post of this year………

23rd July 2021Loveday Fisk

Well, we made it.  We finally got to the end of the academic year happy and healthy, ready for the next part of our journey.  We’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to you wonderful parents and carer’s who have supported us through the most turbulent of years. We appreciate for parents it hasn’t been easy to navigate through jobs, childcare, isolation and PCR’s the school year.  We have all worked together during the most obscure and unpredictable crisis to keep everyone safe.

Huge thanks to everyone around us in school for keeping us safe too.  Cleaners, Caretaker, Site Manager, Admin, Catering, Lunchtime Supervisors, our Multi-Disciplinary Teams, our fellow bubble colleagues and our wonderful Senior Leadership Team.  It really has been a team effort.

We also want to take this opportunity to say goodbye and good luck to our Year 6 Leavers.  It’s hard to believe you all leave Hadrian this year.  It goes without saying, you’ll be a huge miss to staff and children.  We wish you well in your secondary school journey and will always feel proud to have been part of your Hadrian journey.

CONLAN

Conlan is such a sweetie!  What a joyful, happy, kind boy who always tries his best and is so eager to please.  It has been a pleasure to work with Conlan during his final year at Hadrian.  He has gently and quietly flourished this year with his physical confidence, curiosity and interest in his peers.  He’s also shown us all just how fun and cheeky he can be!

It has been lovely watching him come out of his shell and develop his self-confidence, enabling him to build wonderful relationships with his peers.  It’s great to hear Conlan beginning to use his voice to request more, he certainly knows what he wants.

Conlan has been such a popular boy throughout his journey at Hadrian.  From previous nursery staff onwards, all teachers who have had the pleasure of Conlan in class have watched his journey through Hadrian with sheer joy and will vouch for how much he will be missed. He has grown to be such an independent young man, full of determination and resilience. There will be lots of tears on his last day. We wish him well in his next chapter at Sir Charles Parsons.

FATIMA

Fatima is such a joy!  We absolutely adore her funny, cheeky, positive attitude.  Although she’s had a tough time with her health, Fatima has remained so bright and positive throughout it all. It has been inspiring watching her persevere through the tough times and a joy to watch her during her bright ones.  She has such skills in exploration and engaging all the people around her.  We love her screams of delight and excellent dancing.  She enters the class everyday with that beautiful smile and a wonderful vocal greeting to let us all know she is here. We have watched Fatima grow from a tiny tot in Nursery into a very determined and resilient young lady. We will miss her daily dose of enthusiasm. She is a girl to be proud of and one we’ll always remember with the greatest of love and happiness. Fatima is so full of life and light, Hadrian will be a little duller without her bright light shining. We’ll all miss you so much

JACOB

Jacob is such a funny, sweet boy, full of character!  He has a warm and loving character and has been a joy to work with. He has played such a big role in our class, getting the room up and moving whenever a dance song comes on.  We have enjoyed supporting his huge development in all areas, but especially his physical independence, reading and talking.  He has risen to every challenge and it has been very exciting to then challenge him further.

Our eldest child at school has captured the heart of every teacher he ever worked with. We have watched him defy all expectation, through some very challenging health problems. His journey with us has never been a dull one.  We will miss his cheeky smile, his John Travolta style dance moves and his big voice. It has been lovely watching Jacob’s self confidence develop and grow over the year and he’s going to leave a big hole in Hadrian’s heart. We will miss him so much!  Best wishes Jacob!

Have a wonderful summer break.  Stay safe.  See you all in September
