What an exciting week we have had celebrating world book day! Our theme this year was ‘Peter Pan’, with the yurt being transformed into Wendy’s bedroom and the sensory room becoming a Peter Pan Fairy Grotto. We linked World Book Day into each subject throughout the week and the children loved the creative spin on each lesson.

On Monday we had a sensory story based around the story of ‘Peter Pan’ where each of the children had the chance to act out parts of the story, such as walking the plank. It was great to see everyone getting into character!

We had a break from World Book Day on Tuesday as we had another celebration, Shrove Tuesday! During our assembly, we learned about Shrove Tuesday and why it is celebrated (including why we eat pancakes). Our very own Head Boy and Head Girl, Usman and Lillie, helped make pancakes for the full school to taste. We had some strange toppings (Nutella, jam, sugar and lemon juice anyone?) but they went down a treat!

On Wednesday we were transported to Wendy’s bedroom in the yurt. We reread the story of Peter Pan and put our acting skills to the test, performing the scene where Peter Pan invites Wendy to leave the nursery and come to Neverland with him. We finished off our time in the yurt with ‘Willy Wonka’s Hot Chocolate) which warmed everyone up and went down a treat. Our English lesson tested the children on how well they remembered the story, with the children sequencing the story and retelling the scene in their own sentences. Everyone must have been paying attention because they all did amazing and were really creative in their summarising sentences. We finished off the day celebrating Kaitlin’s 11th birthday!

The main event, World Book Day, took place on Thursday. Everyone looked fantastic and we had some really creative costumes. We began our day with a virtual zoom meeting with author/illustrator Simon Bartram. We took us through his book ‘Man on the Moon’ and a masterclass on drawing his very cheeky aliens. In food technology we followed the recipe for ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’s Tiger Buns’. We must have some budding bakers as they turned out delicious and everyone enjoyed them for their snack. After lunch we had a Dance Rox session with Jo, where each dance was book themed. Finally we had our World Book Day assembly where we watched ‘The Masked Story Teller’ and showed off some of our amazing costumes on the catwalk.

We finished our week with a school assembly were our new friend Oliver received a certificate for all the work he’s did to build relationships with both the staff and children. We finished out day with wet play and choice time.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
