Last week of half term !

27th May 2022Elaine Quinn

This week we have been busy making our Samba posters for our carnival next half term. We have made some incredible posters and we have displayed our fantastic drawing and writing skills to go along with our wonderful masks that we created last week.

As the Queens Jubilee is slowly approaching, we have been learning all about the queen and have been creating crowns, flags and bunting in preparation for our Kings and Queen parade.

Here is some of our amazing work that we have done!

On Tuesday we joined all our friends in the sports hall and danced along to the ceilidh. This was so much fun and we loved being with all our friends once again. There were many instructions that we had to listen to when dancing to the different songs, however we picked them up very easily and we danced the day away.

On Wednesday we continued our science working learning all about different plants and what they need to grow. We learnt all about the life cycle of a sunflower and we found out that they take 90 days to fully grow. We also found out that when they die, the seeds from the head go into the ground and new sunflowers then grow.

On Thursday we were joined by some of our friends in Tereasa’s class for a Samba dance and a drumming session. We showed our friends our amazing dance skills. When dancing it was really important for us to remain focused throughout, as we had to watch our friends  who were leading the samba dances and make sure we were copying the right move. We also put our music skills to the test and drummed a long to the samba music while our friends were dancing.

We hope you all have an amazing half term holiday and stay safe. We cannot wait to see you all back after the holidays for our final half term before the summer.

Weekly update

13th May 2022Elaine Quinn

This week we have resumed back to normal routine after a hectic couple of weeks with Shakespeare.

On Monday we kickstarted the week with some Samba dancing. We all loved it so much and we made up our own dance routines, while some of our friends played the drums to the music.

On Tuesday we continued our work with identifying the features of a poster. We had a look at some posters in depth and talked about what the event is, where it is held, how much it costs and when it is. Some of our friends have also started to create their own sensory board relating to Rio Carnivals.

In Maths this week we have continued with our counting skills and recognising and consolidating the concept of different numbers. We have built up our skills in different ways, one of them being Hook and Duck. This was so much fun and it required us to use perseverance and fine motor skills as well as our number recognition skills.

In our science this week we have been learning all about what plants need to grow. We then went outside and we had to identify and match different plants, this got us really thinking about the different features of them. We then made some more fairy circles inspired by the Artist Andy Goldsworthy.

On Thursday afternoon we joined together with Year 6 and we all showed off our Samba dance moves and and drumming skills. We absolutely loved joining Year 6 to all dance together and this is something we will be doing on a weekly basis.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Weekly News

5th May 2022Elaine Quinn

This week we have started our new topic of South America. We have learnt all about Brazil and we imagined as if we were at a Rio carnival and have done  samba dancing. We have also learnt different facts about Brazil and what the flag looks like. We then later recreated the flag in one of our art lessons and it looks amazing!!

We have also started our new topic in Maths, which is all about counting and halving numbers. It was so good to get our Maths brains at the ready again as we have been so busy with our Shakespeare performance.

As you know, our Year 6’s and Ella all went to the Northern stage last Friday to perform King Lehr. They were all incredibly amazing and so professional.

As a lot of our school friends weren’t able to watch it, they then performed it again in the Hall and everyone was so amazed by it all.

On Thursday afternoon we had all our parents in for a coffee afternoon. It was so lovely to all get together for the first time this year. We showed our parents all our hard work and the fun activities that we have done so far.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

A Fun filled week

29th April 2022Elaine Quinn

Wow what a busy first week back we have had!

This week  our year 6’s and Ella have been so busy rehearsing for their Shakespeare show tonight. They have done such an amazing job and have been so professional throughout. This week we went down to the Northern stage to rehearse our show on the big stage for the first time and they made us so proud.

On Tuesday our Year 6’s then went out to visit their new school, Sir Charles Parsons. They were really mature and were so eager to meet their new friends and staff for September. They went to visit many different classrooms, had a play outside and even saw some of their old Hadrian friends which was so lovely.

On Thursday we had the most amazing morning down at Nunsmoore fair. We managed to go on all the rides we wanted to and were all so brave and tried new things. As we have been learning about safer strangers in school, it was nice for us to be able to identify safe strangers in an out of school setting and find out more about their job role and how they can protect us if we are lost or in trouble.

We cannot wait to show you all our Shakespeare performance next week and we hope you have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and stay safe.

Our first trip out

8th April 2022Elaine Quinn

This week we finally managed to get out on our first school trip. We have all been so excited for this trip and we were all so amazing while we were there. As our topic this term has been based around space, we took a trip out to the Centre for life.

Firstly we went into the space control room and we took control of rocket launches and all the other important tasks that are done there. This was a lovely job for us to do as, we have been learning about Helen Sharman, who was the first woman to visit the international space station. We also got to put our faces on an astronaut and launch rockets too. We then ventured into the inside of a rocket and we found out where the astronauts go to the toilet and what they can eat while in space.

We then took a trip to the planetarium and watched an amazing show displaying different constellations. This was so mesmerizing, especially as we had made our own a few weeks ago. We also had a lovely play upstairs and did some amazing drawings of the solar system. Using our knowledge, we were able to label the different planets  and also the different continents on Earth.

After a lovely packed lunch, we then went to see the Animal show, this taught us about the different talents that some animals had. Our favorite was the Hippo, who spreads an area with its poo to keep other animals away.

As well as our amazing trip, we went to Charles Parsons swimming and had a lovely play session. Yet again we have come on so far this term and have made so much progress with our water skills and our confidence is shining.

As well as all of that, our Year 6’s have been making excellent progress with their Shakespeare show. They are working incredibly hard and we cannot wait to perform it after the Easter Holidays.

We hope you have an amazing Holidays and all stay safe.

What a crazy week

1st April 2022Elaine Quinn

What a hectic week we have had this week !

On Monday we had a lovely play in the soft play, which we don’t get to do often. It was so much fun and we burned off some steam.

Unfortunately we had to stay off Tuesday, but we came back on Wednesday and had a very busy day. In the morning we did some measurement in math’s. We had to figure out which footprint belonged to which super hero.  We were given different clues and told how many cubes long or centimeters long a super hero’s feet were and we matched them up. After our maths we did some lovely arts and crafts and we started getting ready for our big classroom move, as the builders are putting new lights in our room.

On Thursday we moved into our new classroom, this was an exciting move, but some of us were a little nervous about the move. We spent the day getting used to our new classroom, while some of our friends went to their Shakespeare rehearsals. In the afternoon, we went over the yurt and we played some fun board games and we watched a lovely film. We made sure we were all cosy under the blankets, as it was snowing loads yesterday and very cold.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe!

The suns finally coming out !

25th March 2022Elaine Quinn

This week we have continued our amazing writing on our biographies about Bob the Space Man. We have also done some lovely phonic sessions based around segmenting, blending and writing. These weekly phonics sessions have really paid off and have shown in our writing.

This week we also had our national Marie Curie Reflection day. We went over to our Caterpillar garden and we had a look at all the lovely work that we had all done last week. We reflected upon the good memories we shared together and had a lovely plan in the Sun.

We also continued our work on our Fairy Gardens again this week and we watered our plants from last week and we painted some lovely stones. We then used the stones and sticks to create fairy fences and paths and made our little garden look even more magical

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Another busy week!

17th March 2022Elaine Quinn

This week, we have continued our work on biographies and have been writing some amazing facts about Bob, the Man on the Moon. We have really been working on our letter formation and segmenting cvc words in our writing. As you can tell by our work, we have become such amazing writers.

This half term we have been focusing on Bench ball. This is a game that requires a lot of skills such as team work, communication, listening,  throwing and catching. Due to this matter, this week we really focused on our throwing accuracy skills. We took it in turns to throw balls at the opposing team which we really enjoyed. This was extremely beneficial for building our confidence up, as some of us weren’t sure about having a soft ball thrown at our legs.

As it is coming up to April, our Shakespeare rehearsals have kickstarted again. This week Maria, Perry lee, Muhammad Raza and Muhammad have been practicing their roles in the performance. We cannot wait to see what more is to come.

In Maths this half term we are focusing on measurement. This is something we have all been superb at in the classroom. We are able to compare and describe the lengths of different objects and measure them using cubes or a ruler. As we have been amazing at measuring inside the classroom, we decided to take a trip outside to take our skills even further. We found different objects from outside that were on our list and we had to first estimate whether or not they would be bigger or smaller than 5 cubes or 10 cm. Once putting out estimation skills to the test, we then were able measure the objects and write down the measurements.

Last week, we spent the day in the yurt and we made some lovely fairy circles and hammered our fairy houses down to some tree stumps. This week we have decided to make our fairy garden look even more beautiful and we have done some amazing planting. This was rather tricky as the ground was very solid and had lots of weeds in it, however we showed a lot of resilience with our digging skills and we managed to get all our plants into the ground. We cannot wait to see them grow and show you all how beautiful our fairy garden is.

That’s all from us this week, we hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Back in the swing of things

11th March 2022Elaine Quinn

After a crazy busy world book week, we have resumed back to usual routine and started the week off learning about biography’s. We learnt what a biography is and we were all able to sort out texts into different piles. The following day we listened to the story of The Man on the Moon. We then jotted down some key facts about Bob the astronaut in preparation of creating our own biography’s.

On Tuesday we finally got back out to Sir Charles Parsons for our weekly swimming sessions. We had so much fun and we practiced our kicking skills. This was a great opportunity to splash all our teachers.

This half term in Maths we have moved onto measurements. This is something we have picked up really well and we are well and truly showing off our skills. We can compare and describe different objects and we can also use rulers to measure different objects!

On Thursday the sun decided to make an appearance, which was very fortunate as we spent the day out in the Yurt. In the morning we collected natural materials and made some lovely fairy circles in the flow field. In the afternoon we then collected more natural materials and used them to dress our fairy’s’. After that some of us nailed our fairy houses that we made last week to different tree stumps. This was a very tricky job, but we persevered and got the job done.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and stay safe !

World book week

3rd March 2022Elaine Quinn

What a week we have had this week!

We have had a lovely first week back this week and we have had a week full of fun activities.

On Monday we had a day filled with performing arts activities, we had sensory stories and did some amazing acting of the story Peter pan.

On Tuesday we managed to grab a slot in our Hydro pool, we all loved this and had the most fun session splashing our friends.

On Wednesday we had yet another exciting day, we went out into the Yurt in the morning which was set up as Wendy Darling’s bedroom. We listened to the story of Peter Pan and we recreated a scene from the story. We also did some amazing arts and crafts in the afternoon. We made some beautiful fairy houses out of toilet rolls and milk bottles and even made a fairy garden out of different materials.

As Thursday was World Book Day we all came in dressed up as one of our favourite storybook characters. In the morning we had a lovely zoom call with a famous author and we then illustrated a character from one of his books. They were amazing ! At Lunch time we were joined by Jo Jingle and we had a lovely dance about in the hall. Finally, we then all gathered in the hall for our World Book Day assembly and we all had to guess who the masked story tellers were.

We hope you all have had an equally amazing week as we have. Have a lovely weekend and stay safe !
