Weekly news

21st January 2022Elaine Quinn

This week in PE we have been practicing our aiming and throwing skills. We are getting really good at this and will continue to flourish through the term.

We have also been learning the time in class and we can confidently identify o’clock and we are now working on half past the hour.

We have also learnt some very interesting facts about space and we looked at subheadings and grouped the sentences to the correct sub headings.

We have also started back at Sir Charles Parsons for our weekly swim. This week we have been practicing putting our heads under the water to retrieve an item off the floor.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Hello Everyone

21st January 2022Rachael Budden

As always, we’ve had such a busy week! We’ve all been really impressed with everyone’s behaviour and attitude to learning.

On Monday we linked out topic of space into our artwork. Everyone made brilliant collages of the planet earth, showing off their artistic skills by drawing, gluing and sticking tissue to represent the planet.

On Tuesday in Maths, we continued our work on time. Each week the children are demonstrating their understanding more and more. Some of the class were also lucky enough to go on a Maths hunt, finding sticks and stones to represent numbers. As always, we finished off our day with the best time of the week, swimming! Each and every pupil loves showing us their water skills, ducking underwater, retrieving items from the bottom of the pool, and finishing the lesson with free play always goes down well.

Wednesday was a very special day in class. We were learning all about the Scottish celebration, Burns Night. We learnt why and how Burns Night is celebrated, including what they eat and songs they sing. We made shortbread, a Scottish specialty, taking turns to mix, roll and cut the mixture. We spent the rest of the day in the Yurt, dancing and singing to traditional Scottish music, weaving tartan patterns and even playing Burns Night bingo.

Thursday was a day full of exercise. We had our PE session with Graeme, doing drills, football and Benchball. Everyone loved our session at kangaroo club, not only did they do great jumping, but also great spotting and turn taking. We did some role play to try and identify safe and unsafe strangers. The children had some great ideas of how to identify safe strangers.

Today we celebrated our half term achiever in assembly. Charlie L has made us all incredibly proud with his progress in reading, writing and Maths! We spent lunchtime in football club, practicing the skills we have been learning in PE and finished the day with choice time.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Our first full week back!

14th January 2022Elaine Quinn

This week we have continued our topic of space. In English we have looked at fiction and non-fiction texts and discussed the differences between them.

In our science this week, we have discussed the Earth. We now know what the equator is and we know that the countries the closest to the equator are the hottest  and the countries furthest away are the coldest.

In our Art, we ripped up different blue and green tissue paper to make our own Earth. We also used the tips of paint brushes to paint green and blue dots where the Land and Sea were.

On Thursday we had a lovely time in the Thrive room. We talked about how we were feeling using the different types of weather. We then got into pairs and drew one another and we described each other and said what was special about one another. After the hard work we then got to have a lovely play.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

16th December 2021Nadia Motie

Last Friday we enjoyed our Christmas Class Party. We danced our socks off! There was lots of sensory exploration which we loved exploring with our hands and feet! We loved being silly with grown-ups, dancing by the tree and listening to all the Christmas music!

On Monday some of us enjoyed a Chaplin’s Christmas Panto followed by a disco in the Hydro pool.

Tuesday was Christmas Dinner day in school, we celebrated with our friends in our own way in class. We made the classroom smell of all the different aromas that you may find during Christmas time. We could smell cinnamon, orange and spices! We then enjoyed Christmas carols outside with all our friends.

Today was our special Elf day! Our school was full of Elves everywhere you turned! This was to start the fundraising for our new Hydro Pool. We all dressed up and partnered up with an adult for our Sponsored Contact Dance. We also participated in an Elf Run. We went in our walking frames, standers and in our buggies and raced around the corridors and around the Adventure Playground!

Tomorrow is our last day before we break up for Christmas. We have a lovely Christmas morning planned followed by a school Nativity in the afternoon.

Merry Christmas to you and all your family. We hope you all have a safe and happy holidays and we look forward to seeing you all back in the New Year. We can’t wait to see all your smiling faces back on Wednesday 5th January 2022.

Pass It On Parents

3rd December 2021Elaine Quinn

It was wonderful to have parents back in school for the ‘Pass it on Parents’ coffee morning, it has been such a long time since we could all be together. The coffee mornings run monthly and all parents are welcome; its a great place for a catch up, coffee, support and great advice.

The team provides information and advice on a range of issues, from helping you to navigate your way around the Local Offer, connecting you with other services, to offering advice on a range of specific issues such as transport, holidays, activities and planning for adulthood.

We can offer practical information and advice, appropriate to individual circumstances and we work across all agencies such as education, social care, health, benefits, leisure and voluntary services.

We can support you in meetings in school and help with Parental Views in the Education Health & Care Plan Assessment process. Our Information Advice and Guidance service will work with you to see if you need more in depth support such as supporting you at Early Help meetings.

Christmas has began !

3rd December 2021Elaine Quinn

This week we kickstarted the week in the Yurt, we had a lovely party in there for Amna’s birthday and we even got to eat our dinners in there too. We also had a special visit from a very important man. We all got lovely chocolates to take home from Santa. How lucky are we !!

On Tuesday we had our weekly baking session. This week we made snowflake shortbread biscuits! They were so tasty and we had so much fun making them !

As it’s now December we have started our advent calendar and we will each get a turn at getting a chocolate and picking a story each morning. We also have a very cheeky elf in our class that likes to hiding different places every morning. One morning we even found him eating all our biscuits out on the tin. What a naughty elf !!

On Thursday we went for our weekly Horse riding lessons. All the horses were dressed all festive and we learnt some new tricks on our horses! We are all very excited to dress up as Elves on the 16th for our sponsored elf ride.

That’s all for this week, we hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Christmas is coming……

3rd December 2021Loveday Fisk

This week we began our Hadrian School countdown to Christmas in style this week.

Monday and Tuesday we began the week with our annual class Christmas trip.  Due to adverse weather over the weekend, we decided to stay nearer school and visit Jesmond Dene.  We had a lovely 2 days out. Children played in the park and enjoyed a walk before having a packed lunch on the warm bus.  We returned to school in the afternoon just in time for snack.

Children came into class on Wednesday December 1st to a magical array of Christmas lights.  Our school hall, reception area and classroom looked very festive.  School always looks magical at this time of year.  We spent the first part of the morning in our Advent assembly introducing the Christmas story of baby Jesus being born.  Children from each class added characters to our nativity scene to build a picture of the manger in Bethlehem.  We lit the first advent candle, which signified ‘hope’.  It was a very moving assembly, in which we sang and signed carols.  We shared a small taste of this on our Friends of Hadrian Facebook page.  Here is the link…….

https://en-gb.facebook.com/pages/category/Community/The-Friends-of-Hadrian-School-433686086649174/

Huge thanks to our friends from Greggs the bakers for their kind donations to school. We are thankful for the continuous generosity for our children all year around.

We also began making baubles to send home to decorate our trees in sensory art.  We had so much fun with the jewels, glitter and sticky back plastic.  I am sure this explains many glittery children going home!  We do change clothes to avoid too much mess but it does seem to sneak everywhere!  Apologies. I am sure the children’s handmade crafts will be worth it, I am sure!

Well done to our Basheer for being our class half term achiever.  Our lovely little boy has made lots of progress in his time with us.  His consistent communication and independence around school has astounded us.  Well done Bash.  Your family must be so proud, as we are!
