End of Year Thoughts

21st December 2018Chris Rollings

As we approach the last days of 2018 I’d like to reflect on the amazing achievements Hadrian School has experienced throughout the last twelve months.

Two of the main highlights of the year have to be our fantastic fourth consecutive ‘Outstanding’ OfSTED Inspection and the opening of our much longed for Rob Armstrong Rebound Therapy Centre, both of which happened in the space of one week in February!  To say we spent the February half term holiday in a bubble of exhaustion, elation and excitement is a bit of an understatement!   We are indebted to Rob and the many, many other people who contributed to the planning and funding of the Rebound Centre and who continue to support us in so many ways.  If you haven’t already seen this amazing facility please make a note in your diary to come in to one of our Viewing Days in February.

Aside from these two events we have continued to provide the very best opportunities for our children from sporting events both in and out of school, arts projects including FLOW, the Shakespeare in Schools Festival at Northern Stage, sensory sessions, visits into the local and wider community, visitors into school including animal handlers, story tellers, theatre and pantomime companies and Pudsey Bear to mention but a few.

Hopefully you will have received the autumn edition of the Hadrian Herald this week which will highlight some of the above mentioned events along with many other activities our children have been involved in this term.

As you will know we also received national coverage due to the unfortunate vandalism we suffered earlier in the year.  Whilst this was a very distressing event for everyone concerned, we have managed to put it all behind us due to the overwhelming support we have received from our own friends and families as well as complete strangers.  We have all been touched and humbled by this universal show of encouragement and we are very grateful to each and every one of you.  We must also say a huge ‘Thank You’ to the kindness people have shown during the run up to Christmas – we have been inundated with gifts and selection boxes for all the children.  As you will appreciate, as our budget is extremely tight these days, it is good to know that Santa’s purse is always open and every child has received a gift.

Many thanks to everyone who attended our Christmas Show last Friday – I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.  Our children and staff never cease to amaze me with their creativity and commitment to making the most of every single opportunity.

As we begin to look forward into 2019 we are starting out on plans for our next big dream – a new hydrotherapy pool which we hope will eventually be built adjacent to the Rob Armstrong Rebound Therapy Centre.  We know this will be a huge undertaking and will be years in the planning but…….. as the song says, ‘If you don’t have a dream……. how you gonna have a dream come true?’

Merry Christmas one and all and very best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Chris

Merry Christmas!

21st December 2018Rachael Budden

We have had an amazingly Christmassy week this week and are all officially in the Christmas spirit!  We have done lots of Christmas crafts and cooking along with going for pizza and having our Key Stage 2 Christmas party-phew!  Well done to Jack who won 6B’s Christmas Jumper Design competition!  Mrs.Stokle/Mrs. Elf judged the competition and what a fine choice she made!  Our party was brilliant yesterday-we couldn’t believe it when Santa himself arrived and gave us some amazing presents!

We also had someone else very special come to meet us this week…Lloyd who will be joining our class for 11 weeks next term whilst Marc will be going to his new placement at Southwick Academy.  Lloyd has some great things planned for us and we can’t wait to welcome him into out 6B family!

We all hope you have a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.  See you back on Tuesday 8th January 2018!

Lots of love and festive wishes,

Rachael, Marc, Janice, Tracy, Stu, Rob and Julie

Yummy Christmas Dinner

20th December 2018Clare Downey

On Tuesday we all went into the School Hall for our yummy Christmas dinner. We put on our Christmas hats and joined the whole school. We had crackers on the table and tucked into a delicious Christmas dinner. We are used to having dinner in our classroom so it was quite different for us but we all coped so well.

Party Time

18th December 2018Clare Downey

Yesterday we had a wonderful day at our Christmas party. In the morning we went into the School Hall with our friends from KS1 where we joined in with lots of party games such as Christmas corners, musical statues and musical bumps. We went back to class for a quick snack and then we went back into the Hall to sing Christmas songs with different props.

In the afternoon we sang beautiful songs around the smart board “fire” whilst we waited for a special visitor, Santa Claus himself. We sat around the Christmas tree and Santa gave us each a present. We then enjoyed some yummy food. What a busy day.

Somewhere only we know…

18th December 2018Loveday Fisk

On Friday, all of us at Hadrian showcased our fantastic Christmas performance.

Class 5/6 would like to say a huge well done to all of the children and all involved for the hard work that went into making the show so magical.

Our class joined forces with Johns class, and together we produced a video of the children having lots of fun in a ‘Winter Wonderland’ to the ever so popular song ‘Somewhere only we know’. The video really captures how fantastic our children are, and we are very proud of each and everyone of them. The performance on Friday went smoothly, and they all stayed calm and happy from start to finish. Even showing lovely smiles on stage!

Well Done Everyone!!

Christmas fun at Hall Hill Farm!

17th December 2018Nadia Motie

Hello!

As promised here our some of our photos from Hall Hill Farm! We had a fantastic time at their Christmas event, we were greeted by our lovely friendly Elf (Dee) who looked after us very well all day! First we visited the rabbits and all had a chance to hold/stroke them, then we went to feed some sheep and goats! After that we visited the talking Reindeer and Santa’s Grotto! Santa had a chat to each of us about what we wanted for Christmas and everyone got an early Christmas gift! In the afternoon we had our lunch, played in the huge softplay area then had a tractor ride around the farm! A great day was had by all! Thanks Hall Hill Farm!

Christmas Fun!

14th December 2018Loveday Fisk

We have had lots of fun on the run up to Christmas this week!

Our week has been full of festive cheer, with lots of singing and dancing. We had a trip to John’s Class on Tuesday morning, for a Christmas sing along and enjoyed it so much we invited our friends around for another session on Thursday.

Some of the group got to meet some animals this week. Billy, Kimberly and Fatima got the chance to say hello to a few farmyard animals, and fell in love with Marble the sheep! Unfortunately Marble’s time was in high demand this Christmas period, so not everyone got the chance to say hello. However the rest of the class didn’t mind, as they had lots of fun in the classroom during exploration and investigation. Peniel loved using the ripped up paper as snow balls!

The whole class got to enjoy our annual class pantomime this week. Cinderella! Lots of laughs and giggles were had. It really helped us get into the Christmas spirit!

We look forward to next week, to have more festive fun!

Pop Up Hair Shop !

14th December 2018Elaine Quinn

What a fantastic day we had in our pop up salon !

The response was amazing and the kids absolutely loved it as you can see by the pics! There are some many lovely pictures.

Thanks to everyone who sent in a voluntary contribution of £3. We have raised £95 so far, and this will go to school funds to buy new equipment and resources.

We are now going to run it once a term and the next date is Friday 8th February.  A letter will come out nearer the time.
