If your child wears AFOs you will understand the struggles with finding shoes to fit and how hard it can be getting shoes over AFOs.
These boots made by Billy boots are fantastic ! BILLY Footwear has revolutionized how shoes are put on and taken off. By incorporating a zipper that goes along the side of the shoe and around the toe, the upper of each shoe opens and folds over completely. The design allows for unobstructed foot placement onto the shoe footbed. Then with a flip and a zip, the shoe securely closes.
They’re not available in the UK but can be ordered online from America. They come in lots of colours and styles. I found a good selection on https://www.zappos.com/b/billy-footwear-kids/brand
They are expensive, around £65 with delivery.
Does your child receive continence products ? If so you will know they have recently changed suppliers from TENA to Hartman. The nursing team are holding a coffee morning at 10am on Friday 30th November with a representative from Hartman’s to hold a discussion of any issues or concerns you may have.
Your child will have a letter with reply slip in their diary, please complete and return it if you are interested in coming along to this session.
This week we started new topics in art and science. In art we are going to be working with textiles and in science we are looking at health and growth.
On Tuesday we had some cycling coaches come into school to teach us how to ride balance bikes. We were so good at riding the bikes that the two coaches are going to come into school after Christmas for 5 more cycling lessons – some using proper bikes with pedals!
Today we had a lovely party to celebrate Ellie May’s birthday.
We are very lucky to have our Music Therapist, Bev Raynor, doing a music therapy group with us this half term. She knows our children well as has worked with many of them individually, but we are now having a whole group session every Thursday afternoon. Every child shows brilliant increased engagement during these sessions.
Music Therapy is engagement in shared music making, whether this is done improvisationally, making use of music people already know, creating new music together, or working towards some kind of performance. Music making is part and parcel of the way that all children learn about the world around them and develop new skills. It is a safe way of taking risks and developing independence. It is playful and intrinsically interactive. It is motivating and encourages children to keep trying things.
We look forward to our next session and seeing how our children’s enjoyment of music.
Another busy and productive coffee morning with the Pass it on Parents ladies ! Doing their fabulous stuff.

Pass it on Parents run support groups in many locations around the North East :
Our Families Advice and Support Team offers information, advice and support for families of disabled children in Newcastle. The team can help you with problems, and help you apply for funding. They can let you know about activities and services for your child and your family.
Pass it on Parents Newcastle is a parents group that supports families with children who have additional needs living in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. We are part of the Family Advice and Support Team based at Skills for People,
Our Pass it on Parents peer support team, reaches around 1600 family carers through its facebook group. We strongly believe in the value of parent to parent support, and would like to help other parents by sharing experience and knowledge at one of our drop-in sessions or coffee mornings. Come along and find out some useful information that may help you or your family.
On Thursday we had our second horse riding session at Pegasus Riding Centre. The ponies we rode were called Midnight, Baz, Daisy and Chief. We had lots of fun playing games whilst riding the horses. Some of us were naturals! Whilst we were waiting for our turn we all enjoyed having a drink of hot blackcurrant to warm us up.
We have had a lovely first half term getting to know everyone and have already achieved so much in such a short space of time!
This week we have been doing lots of fun Halloween activities including pumpkin carving, making spiders in Art and making eyeballs in cookery! We finished the week with a Halloween party where we danced, played games and of course had a lovely party snack!
Have a lovely half term.
Welcome to our blog.
We have had a great start to the new term.
In September we were invited to Val and Reg’s house at Craster. Val is a volunteer who helps each week in class. We had a fantastic day walking along the path near Dunstanbrugh Castle and meeting Mick Oxley, a local artist at Craster. Thanks again Val and Reg for making us feel very welcome in your home.
We also had a trip to the Local Hindu Temple to find out how people worship at the temple.
Yesterday we had a great Halloween day making our own mummies getting dressed up and having a party.
Everyone enjoyed the fun session at Byker Pool.
We hope you have a lovely Half Term holiday and look forward to seeing everyone after the holidays.
