Hello 2023!

13th January 2023Dave Robinson

Hi everyone, Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful festive break, with plenty of time for rest and recuperation amongst the hustle and bustle of Christmas time!

We were so excited to see our little class on Monday and couldn’t wait to start exploring all of the new topics and lessons we have planned for Spring 1 (who else can’t believe it’s already the Spring term?!) We took it at a slower pace on Monday and Tuesday in order to help readjust to our school routines; so have enjoyed time playing, creating messy art and exploring music, but come Wednesday everyone was right back in the swing of things like we’d spent no time away!

Our new sensory story topic for this term is ‘Space’ and so on Thursday we were amazed to open the classroom door and be transported away to the Milky Way! The adults had created lots of different zones to explore and discover, along with writing a very special story for us. We followed the story, working together to help build our rocket and blast off to the Moon! We all had a wonderful time exploring, and already can’t wait for our next trip into Outer Space!

We’d like to send a special shout out to our lovely William, who received our certificate in assembly today! Will has had an incredible first week back to school; remaining regulated for extended periods of time and displaying lots of amazing engagement in lessons. Well done William, we’re so proud of you!

Have a lovely weekend everyone, see you on Monday! – Dave and team 🙂

A very Merry Christmas from Dave’s class!

23rd December 2022Dave Robinson

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Who else can’t quite believe we’re already finishing up the Winter term? It only feels like a month ago that we were welcoming this special group of children into their very first days of Dave’s class back in September.

We’ve had the loveliest, most magical week here in Dave’s class, spending everyday doing multiple special off-timetable treats to help us get in the festive mood.

We’ve met Santa Claus himself not once but twice(!), enjoyed a very tasty Christmas dinner for lunch, danced our socks off at the KS1 Christmas party and made some very special hats for us to wear proudly on Christmas Day!

We hope everyone has the most magical Christmas time and a very happy and healthy New Year, with plenty of time for indulging and relaxing!

Just before we go, we’d like to take a second to thank everyone who’s taken the time to send well-wishes, cards and treats for our class party over the last week, and extend a  further massive thank you to everyone who has shown our little class love and support over the year; we appreciate it so incredibly much and it’s always heartwarming to know that people are loving and supporting our class as much as we do!

Thank you so much everyone, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! – Dave and team 🙂

Our Christmas performance!

16th December 2022Dave Robinson

Wow, what a week we’ve had this week in Dave’s class!

As you’ll all know by now, we’ve been packing the last couple of weeks choc-full of Christmas themed fun in the run up to our winter break, but this week we’ve hit our all-time Christmassy high with our show-stopping debut in our Hadrian School Christmas performance!

Thank you so, so much to everyone who came out to support us and wave us on, we loved spotting so many familiar faces as we climbed up onto the stage. We decided along with our friends in John’s, Phil’s and Loveday’s class to deviate away from the traditional nativity, and instead create our own, very special take on a perfect Christmas Day! We started by waking up and exploring snow, snowballs, Christmas lights and icy weather, before moving on to wrapping (and unwrapping!) presents, playing with bows and ribbons, and even climbing inside of some massive present boxes! Finally we got to dance and celebrate at our Christmas party, complete with the perfect backing track of Slade and over two hundred balloons!! We all had the best time exploring, playing and engaging on stage, and it was so, so lovely to be able to show our loved ones how much fun we have at school.

Please enjoy these photos of our week. We hope the upcoming wintery conditions won’t dampen any fun this weekend! See you all on Monday – Dave and team 🙂

Our Christmas trip, a celebration of diversity, and an Elf Run!

9th December 2022Dave Robinson

Hi everyone! 15 sleeps ’til Santa arrives, who else is starting to get excited?!

This week we’ve had an incredibly fun-filled, festive week, started on Monday by getting crafty with salt dough and making our Christmas gifts! We all loved getting to squash and squeeze the mixture and watching it transform from dry ingredients to a rollable, shapable dough! Once this baked overnight in the oven, we spent Tuesday morning releasing our inner Picasso with an array of paint, glitter and festive bits and bobs. We’re over the moon with the finished results, and we can’t wait to bring them home in the last week of school as a special present for our loved ones!

On Wednesday we took a break from the Christmas timetable with a specially organised afternoon of multi-cultural fun! We’re so thankful for our Labli who went to great trouble making sure the event was perfect, with an amazing assortment of dancers, singers, food tasting, henna artists and musical instruments. We couldn’t believe how much there was to explore, and it was incredible getting to experience some new cultures. We were encouraged to create a flag that represented the heritage of one of our classmates, and so we chose to create a huge Nepali flag in order to celebrate our wonderful Subasna!

Thursday was the special day that we got to go on our Christmas trip! We sadly had a couple of classmates unwell so there was only six of us with our grown-ups on the outing, but we still managed to have the best time! We had a great morning exploring The Tim Lamb centre in Benton, and all especially loved their soft play and trampoline rooms. Some of us even got bundled up nice and tightly and braved their outdoor space, it was definitely the adults who felt colder than the children! We were even lucky enough to see our first snow of Winter, which helped to make the trip even more magical.

Finally, just to top off our incredibly jam-packed week, we celebrated Elf Day today! We loved seeing the whole school dressed up in gorgeous outfits and funny elf hats, and taking part in a whole school elf run (indoors of course!) Our class also signed up for a sponsored Elf Bounce this afternoon, which we loved taking part in. Thank you so much to everyone who supported us by sponsoring our class or sending in money, we really appreciate it and can’t wait to find out what we raised both as a class and as a school!

We hope everyone has a restful weekend after this action-packed week, and comes back into school on Monday feeling happy and healthy! – Dave and team 🙂

Merry December!

2nd December 2022Dave Robinson

Hi everyone, we hope you’re all happy and well as we make our way into the last month of 2022!

This week has marked the start of the Christmas festivities here in Dave’s class, and haven’t we just had the best time! On Wednesday afternoon our grown-ups began pulling all sorts of funny-shaped boxes and bags out of the storage cupboard, and by Thursday morning our normal classroom had been transformed into a festive wonderland!

Also on Thursday, we had a special advent assembly in the school hall to mark the first day of December and to learn a little bit about why we do all of these Christmas celebrations anyway. We had a great time singing along to the carols that the school band played, and we loved watching some of the other children place the advent figurines inside of the display. We were also lucky enough to have been gifted an advent calendar to share as a class, and we can’t wait to all get a turn at opening a door and getting the chocolate that’s hiding behind! We’re very very thankful to the incredible person who donated these advent calendars; buying one for each class must have cost a great amount and we can’t begin to share how grateful we are.

On Thursday afternoon we had an amazing time listening to our friend Chris, a wonderful storyteller who very kindly visited Hadrian school and put on a special interactive story just for us all about trees and the woodlands. We loved getting cosy and listening to his story, and we especially loved seeing all of his magic props! Thank you so much to Chris for visiting, and for Hadrian School for organising such lovely treats for us.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend, and gets to begin to enjoy some of the festivities that December has to offer! See you all bright and early on Monday morning for another week of fun and festive exploration! – Dave and team 🙂

Children in need and circus tent fun!

18th November 2022Dave Robinson

Hi everyone, that’s another week of Autumn term 2 done and dusted!

Today at school we’re celebrating Children in need, Happy Pudsey Day! We’ve taken part in a school-wide competition to create and decorate our very own ‘spudsy Pudsy’; turning a humble potato into a tribute to the famous mascot himself! We decided to make a model of Pudsey in hibernation (or hiber-tat-ion, get it?!) mode; tucked away safely in a warm and cosy cave surrounded by his foraged finds.

This week we’ve had all of our usual fun and exploration, but just with less outdoor time due to the wet and wild weather we’ve had over the last few days. Some of our more adventurous classmates did brave the rain yesterday, wrapped up in full body waterproofs and wellies!

Check out these photos of our class enjoying some circus fun on Thursday; who would thought that a parachute could evoke so much happiness and communication!

Have a great weekend everyone, see you Monday! -Dave and team 🙂

Our Fire Engine fun!

11th November 2022Hope Hope

Hi everyone, happy Friday and happy Remembrance Day; we’re having a special school-wide assembly this morning to pay our respects and give our thanks on this important day.

This week Hadrian School was lucky enough to get a visit from some real life superhero’s; the firefighters and cadets from West Denton fire station! A couple of weeks ago, these lovely people did an amazing job of raising money for our school and as a class we made them some cards and a big banner to say thank you, so when we found out that they’d actually be coming into school we were all so excited!

On Wednesday morning we could barely contain our excitement when we heard the fire engine arrive, and while we all waited incredibly patiently for our turn, as soon as it was time we raced outside as fast as we could.

We all got a turn sitting in the back of the fire engine and trying on the firefighter’s helmets, but the fire engine was so big and so high off the ground that a very kind fireman had to give us all a lift up and down again!

We also all got a turn of using the firefighter’s hose, which was a lot heavier and a lot more powerful than we had thought it would be. We’re a class full of water-babies here in Dave’s class, so any activity that involves water is a clear favourite! Some of us brave souls even got right in the hose’s stream and ended up drenched!

After all this fun it’s only right that we have a weekend off school to relax and recharge, don’t you think?!

Have a great weekend everyone – Dave and team 🙂

Our first week back, Halloween, and Bonfire night!

4th November 2022Dave Robinson

Well what a first week back, talk about returning with a bang!

Monday set the tone for our week of fun as of course it was Halloween! We loved getting to see all of our class incredible costumes and seeing their faces light up at our spookily decorated classroom! The adults did an amazing job (if we do say so ourselves!) and we all thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck in to some creepy sensory play and exploring all of the different stations. We were all treated to a wonderful Halloween themed dinner and then got to get our groove on at the school-wide Halloween disco, huge thanks to Mark and his team for making it an afternoon to remember!

Today we’ve celebrating Bonfire night a day early, and have spent afternoon enjoying our very own Hadrian School bonfire and firework display which we were all enthralled by. The fireworks were so loud and shot up so fast that we couldn’t take our eyes off them! As part of our Bonfire night celebrations we’ve all made our very own firework cards this week, which have come home with us in our bags and we hope you love them.

On top of all of this off-timetable fun and excitement, we’ve had a jam-packed week of our usual, timetabled enjoyment too! We’ve gotten all of our excess energy expelled by swimming in the hydro-pool, bouncing around in the rebound center and exploring the adventure playground, and have been showcasing our artistic talents in both painting and model making with our new art topic of boxes!

After all this excitement we hope everyone has a restful weekend, although with Bonfire tonight tomorrow we know this may not be the case! We hope everyone has fun and stays safe in their celebrations, and we already can’t wait to see our class on Monday for another week of fun! – Dave and team 🙂

It’s half-term!

21st October 2022Dave Robinson

Hi everyone, happy Friday! What a quick seven weeks that was, we can’t believe that this is the end of Autumn 1 already!

This half term has been amazing; we feel so lucky that we’ve got to spend these weeks working alongside a really special group of children and seeing them come out of their shells. We’ve already seen some incredible progress, which in seven short weeks is almost unheard of, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings.

This week we’ve been exploring all of the best things about Autumn! On Tuesday morning we went on an exploration walk of the school grounds to collect fallen autumnal objects, and then once they had dried out over dinner time we got to paint them! We all loved rolling the conkers we found in the paint trays to make tracks, and pressing the leaves we collected onto paper to make leaf prints!

We hope everyone has a lovely break; spend the week having plenty of fun and enjoying the best of October weather, and we’ll see you back in class on the 31st for a spooky day of Halloween fun! – Dave and team 🙂

A classroom Circus and an Italian cooking adventure!

14th October 2022Dave Robinson

Hi everyone, happy Friday! One more week until our first half-term break of the year, how quickly has that time gone!

We’ve had a typically busy week here in Dave’s class, and despite being hit with the first sickness bug of the year, we’ve managed to pack this week choc-full of play, communication and exploration. We hope all of our friends who have been under the weather this week are feeling better, and we can’t wait to see you on Monday!

Our school-wide Harvest festival celebration took place on Wednesday; we were given the brief of cooking a food that represented the heritage of our class and so we chose to make an Italian focaccia bread to represent our lovely Divine! We all rolled our sleeves up and got stuck straight in to the baking, with everyone loving the chance to mix, kneed, roll and prove to our heart’s content. Our resulting focaccia turned out excellent if we do say so ourselves, but we’ll attach a photograph of our presentation board to let you be the judge!

We also started our sensory story this week, which for the Autumn term is Circus themed. Our excitement when walking into the classroom and seeing it transformed into a circus big top was incredible, complete with circus sound effects and plenty of circus stations to explore. We all loved feeling the straw floor, playing with the scary wild animals, and getting the chance to try our hand at being gymnasts; some of us are definitely ready to take Nelly the elephant’s place and pack our bags for the circus!

As always we hope everyone has a restful weekend, we can’t wait to welcome all of our friends back on Monday ready for our last week of the half term! – Dave and team 🙂
