Halloween week !

22nd October 2021Elaine Quinn

This week has been a fun filled week packed full of different Halloween activities. We have decorated our door, made mummies, painted, carved pumpkins and made split pin puppets.

On Tuesday We had our final cooking session with Katy, from Fun little foodies. This week we made fruit scones and we designed a front cover for our recipe books. We have loved having Katy in every Tuesday and we have learnt so many new skills that we will continue to use in our future cookery lessons.

As we have worked so so hard this half term and achieved our Level 1 in swimming, we had a lovely play session in the pool to celebrate all the hard work we have done. We cannot wait to go back to Sir Charles Parsons after the holidays and start working on our Level 2.

On Thursday we went out for our weekly Horse riding lessons. We have come along so far since week 1! Our confidence and skills have grown so much through the weeks and it really shows. We are very excited to go back Horse riding after the holidays!

As it is Friday and Halloween is near approaching, we have all dressed up in fancy dress and we look amazing!  We got to parade around the school and show off our costumes, which everyone loved doing.

The children have made an amazing job creating our door decoration, sadly we did not win the whole school competition but we were very proud of their work.

We also would like to say a big well done to Amna for getting a certificate and medal in this weeks achievers assembly for being such a kind and caring friend to everyone in the class this week. we are so proud of you!

We hope you have a spooooooookily amazing half term and happy Halloween. We cannot wait to see you all back in November.

Pizza and Treasure Hunts

15th October 2021Marc Teasdale

It’s been another fantastic week here in Marc’s class! Check out Episode 6 of our Blogcast if you don’t believe us!

We started the week with a treasure hunt! We collected lots and lots of different pictures from around the adventure playground. We looked at each one and performed an action to represent the character:

The characters are the main players in the ancient story of The Minotaur! We had a great time using these actions to tell the story as a group:

On Wednesdays we put our cooking skills to the test and made our very own pizzas! We chose the toppings we wanted to use and added these to each of our bases. Check out the process below:

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Gosforth Civic Theatre to see ‘Tarzanna’! The performance was an amazing experience and all in attendance were blown away. You can find out more here: https://gramophonestheatre.com/tarzanna/

Have a lovely weekend!

Crafty Foxes

15th October 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week the children have been working hard as usual but they have also been very crafty foxes and created lots of lovely Arty pieces for various class displays. They have been working on their African sunset pictures by adding shadow animals and lots of lovely spooky crafts for our Halloween door next week!

Next week is our school Halloween week where classes will be decorating doors for a competition, dressing up and doing lots of lovely Halloween activities. If you pass our door please keep a lookout for our spooky Halloween themed video on our class TV screen.

Today our lovely Nell got the class Certificate for working hard as always. Nell is one of the fabulous children in class who puts her all into EVERYTHING she does and we are so proud of her. Well Done Nell.

Have a lovely weekend!

Dear Parents/Carers

We have had an excellent week. We were lucky to have music therapy in the Sea Shanty Shack this week with Tom and Phillipa. Shirley’s son also brought in an army vehicle for the children to look at and climb on board which they loved. We have been making a hot stone soup video for Pat our chair of governors church. I will send a link home so you can watch the video via class dojo. Have a lovely weekend.

Thank you

Wibble wobble, jelly frogs and snakes!

By Phil Cookson1st October 2021

This week we have enjoyed more sensory experiences. We were very excited to see what was inside the big box – strawberry jelly with frogs and snakes! We used our nose to smell the strawberry jelly as the lid came off, we used our hands to feel the jelly squash through our fingers as we grabbed the snakes and frogs, and of course we had to use our tongue to have a taste! Yummy!

We also enjoyed a sensory communication group trying different tastes and smells. We used vocalisations and gestures to tell our teachers if we liked it or not, the honey was our favourite!

What a Windy Day

1st October 2021Coralie Forbes

As part of our outdoor learning this week we took a step outside to enjoy and experience the wind, using ribbons; feeling the wind on our bodies and being under the parachute while it was waved up and down, fast and slow in time to music. Hopefully you can see how much we all enjoyed this session from the smiles on our faces, eyes open, arms and fingers moving towards the parachute and ribbons.

Outdoors, waterplay and rebound….

24th September 2021Loveday Fisk

Already we can see potential friendships blossoming. Happy Friday friends.  We have had a very busy third week!  Staff and children have merged as a team, beautifully.

As a school we have a wonderful outdoor learning curriculum, filled with exciting opportunities to learn using the wealth of outdoor spaces we have to access.  Our class learn outdoors everyday, come rain or shine.  We have waterproof clothing and footwear for every child in class, to allow children to learn outdoors despite the unpredictable British weather.
This week has been no different.  Here are some photos of our children using the internal quad to work on their PLP (personal learning plan) outcomes.

Lots of our children are very motivated by water play.  These are golden opportunities to support great communication.  This week we worked on communication targets using the water play environment to encourage children to make requests.  Here are some photos of our fun times learning using water….

Our class follow a very physical, therapeutic and sensory curriculum.  Rebound Therapy is a weekly session which our class LOVE.  We follow a structure every week to encourage a range of movements from each child.  We use music as a cue to follow a routine in which we balance, crawl, walk, climb and stand using the trampoline as a base to challenge each child.  Lots of children need these sessions to expend some energy while others use the movement of the bed to enjoy deeper stretches and more stimulating position work.  We are very lucky to have our own bespoke Rebound Therapy Centre.

Already we can see potential friendships blossoming…..

Have a wonderful weekend.  We look forward to another fun filled week next week.
